A Dance With Dragons Release Date Accurate?

Did they actually say which year the September was part of? Maybe it was a typo and they meant September 09? In any case, I think we need to set up a betting pool over how many books he'll get out before he dies and the series is turned over to Piers Anthony.

July '08: What are you reading?

I finished "A Princess of Mars" last week. I'm currently working on Stross' "Iron Sunrise" (Much more readable than the previous book in the series), and "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell". Next week I will be starting "Clan Corporate" and "The Gods of Mars". Some time later this month I will...

What direction will D&D head in?

Pretty much like they've done over the last thirty years. Highly unlikely. All we can hope for is that they alienate a better class of people. I mean the arguments I've seen about 4E and before that, D&D 3rd., are all pretty silly. And the ones recycled from pre D&D 3rd. are even worse...

Hancock - has anyone seen it?

I liked it quite a bit, once I realized the film wasn't a comedy...or at least not the sort of comedy contemporary audiences recognize as such. One interesting key for recognizing the film was more serious than its advertisements was seeing Hancock's reactions; this wasn't a comedian, this was...

How well does ENWorld represent gamers at large?

Of the 40+ gamers I know, only one other is registeered at rpg.net, and might have registered at enworld. Given his incredibly low opinion of the threads at rpg.net, I doubt he would regularily read articles here without the ability to stab people in the face through the monitor. Really, most...

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

Hopefully. This would be making some really nasty associations, and we've already had one thread closed for racial content.

How long does stuff last after death/collapse of an empire?

Actually, due to the different construction techniques we use now, very few, if any of our structures will be standing for any appreciable length of time. Without constant maintenence, buildings will collapse within decades, bringging other buildings down. After a few centuries, the only thing...

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

*blink blink* Just what do you mean by "real world" here? Traditional role-playing games surely, not real-world mythology. Because there's a hell of a lot more mythological races than that. Let's see... Satyre, Dryad, White Women, Centaurs, Mermaids, Nixies, Selkies, Trolls, Phooka...

    Cryptic Prophesies

Mr. Furious: Okay, am I the only one who finds these sayings just a little bit formulaic? "If you want to push something down, you have to pull it up. If you want to go left, you have to go right." It's... The Sphinx: Your temper is very quick, my friend. But until you learn to master your...

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

You kinda got a point there- we also need some insect people with external genetilia as well. I mean, chitinous boobs, what more can one want? Well, anime-style catgirls for one thing. I can't believe that 4E left out the anime-style catgirls. That would have drove sales to an entirely new...

    Sun Rods are awesome!

I agreee Sunrods are a bit naff. Back in the old days, we didn't need any Sunrods when poking ariound dungeons. We just had our pet Type VII Demons and elder dragons excavate off the roof of the dungeon, and that gave us all the light we needed. But no sunrods. Man, that's just twinky.

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

I wonder what it is about younger gamers that makes them so conservative, reactionary even. I mean, back in the day, Dragonborn and Tieflings would be nothing; we were plundering Arduin Grimore for Phraints and Deodanths, not to mention Sauregs; we had demons, Wolfriders, Vulcans with light...

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

And if we were to make a "popular races" conclusion from that, then WoTC should be focusing on undead pirates. And elves of course- maybe the dream combination should be undead elven pirates? Well it's not like we've had any resolution on the content of such a FRPG. Based on that lack of...

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

The popularity of WoW has a lot to do with the fact that the producers of WoW looked hard and long at previous MMORPGs, and made an effort to correct a lot of the mistakes tha they saw in earlier versions. In other words, and to see how it might apply to D&D... Ease of introduction: in WoW...

    I hate game balance!

Are you sure it's not a case of hatiing game balance that prevents you from making an overpowering character? One that dominates the game at everyone else's expense? Because I got the feeling that's what the OP wanted.

    Biggest 4E PHB complaint...

The Tiefling? Surely you jest! It's the human that's a direct cut and paste from World of Warcraft! Just look at the MMORPG- there's humans crawling all over the place! Obviously WOTC saw the popularity of humans in WoW, and decided to put them in 4E...the corproate greedheads.
