    Detect Magic

Correct, assuming they are in the possession of the target of the spell. I think you are mixing two different parts of the spell here. The sentence you cite doesn't apply to the target of the spell, it applies to whatever you want the target of the spell to appear to be. Here is the complete...

    Detect Magic

I have to disagree here kind of. As a general rule, items carried by the creature are affected by spells cast upon the creature. Objects don't make saves when the creature makes it's save. Objects change when the creature polymorphs. Objects teleport/etc. Objects go invisible too. Based on...

    Speed increasing item..

Also, if you use non-WoTC source, the platinum addition to armour adds +10 to movement too as I recall (it's from Monte Cook's Book of Exalted Deeds or whatever it was called).

    Dragonlance trailer. . .

Agreed. Unfortunately, I think the folks behind this movie were so hell bent to have *any* DL movie made (I mean, the DL movie site has been around since the mid 90's...) that they settled for the first shot they had. I doubt very seriously that any other animated movies will be made, and I...

    December: What are you reading?

I finished all of them, and yep, this was one of the the harder to get through for me as well (the magicians nephew was also kind of tough). There's a good reason the movies jumped to Prince Caspian.

    December: What are you reading?

I just wrapped up the Repairman Jack series. Looking for something else to start reading while I wait for the next Dresden, Vampire Earth or RJ book to come out...

Wizard helping fighter from being grappled

Grease or Benign Transposition are about the best out there IMO. BT is particularly effective. Granted, it puts the wizard into the grapple, but if the intent is to get the fighter out at any cost, nothing is more effective.

    Hiding Vampirism

RSoP is pretty much "all undead must be destroyed". I don't see that working, unless you toss the intent behind the class out the window. I'll be dealing with this shortly with someone who is hell bent to bring a necromancer into the party (which currently has a RSoP in the group). I don't see...

    Detect Magic

No, not in my opinion. The rules are pretty clear about what detect magic does/does not detect. If the DM decides to do as Maleketh suggests, he has opted to house rule it (and DM's can do that, but the RAW are pretty clear). Round 1 - He detects the presence of magical aura/auras in your...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

We also had a situation where a new character was coming into the party. The party had an itchy trigger finger. The player confronts the party. They are at the proverbial "mexican standoff". He's being told not to make any sudden movements, etc. One of the party, a pixie, has manuevered in close...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

Back in 2nd Edition, we had an NPC in the party with his "trouble stick". It was a wand of wonder. We'd get into a bind and hear the words "trouble stick, don't fail me now". Sometimes it worked. Other times, a lightning bolt killed a party member... good times... :D

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

I believe one of the stupider is shortly forthcoming. New player is brining in a necromancer... into a party who one of the party leaders is a cleric of Pelor... It's going to make for an interesting session. I wonder what his backup character is...

What happens when you cast a spell?

The writing on the scroll crackles with magical energies, burning off the page, leaving nothing but scorched writing remnants. When the final spell on a scroll is cast, the page itself bursts instantly to dust...

    Trying to play a warlock...

It's in the Fiendish Codex II (or I, whichever has devils in it). Personally, I think it's a little over powered, but we will (in a few levels) have someone playtesting it in a game I am running. I'm probably going to spin it with a faustian pact to add the balance I think it needs...

    New warlock...race?

We have a player who has been playtesting a warlock in two games (one that is going the direction of the hellfire warlock, the other big on summoning swarms), and that was his conclusion as well.

    Gaming in a high-trust environment

Hmmm... Maybe my groups are exceptions to what I am reading here. We game as a social activity. In one of the games, the game itself is frequently second to getting together and hanging out. One group, the DM and I have been gaming together for going on 12 years. Most of the rest of the...

Houston DM looking for 2-3 players

There are 3 groups I know of, two of which I participate in (one of which I DM). Every other Friday night in the Shepperd/Gray area. Age is 30 somethings. I'm 35. I think the youngest player is 25. Oldest may be me... I play in this group. We could probably use 1-2 more players. Every other...
