    Ethics of Killing POWs

Yes. Intent always should factor in IMO. However, based on your description, it's clear to me that he intentionally and deliberately killed a prisoner when it wasn't necessary. The problem exists, largely, because the lizardman was captured and healed. Those two acts (in particular the last act)...

    Ethics of Killing POWs

QFT One of the difficulties in playing LG is if you don't have players that are willing to abide by the fact that you are playing a LG character. Now, that doesn't mean (and shouldn't be read) that everyone else is straddled with your alignment, etc. As I have put it to players, it means if you...

    Ethics of Killing POWs

In reading the thread to this point, it seems to be the one that justifies an evil act by a good party under the "you gotta do what you gotta do" mantra. If that's good at all, and I think I've made it clear that IMO it's not a good act, it's a chaotic good act at *best*. Someone LG should...

    Ethics of Killing POWs

huh? That statement applies to humans as well. Unlike goblinoids, lizardmen are not inherently evil per the RAW. I would consider the entire episode to be a generally non-good act. From the irresponsible actions that set it up (ungagging the prisoner - what exactly did folks expect him to do)...

    Ethics of Killing POWs

Sounds like he's playing chaotic stupid, not chaotic neutral then. Maybe it's just the groups I've played in... but chaotic stupid tends to get taken care of on it's own... if you know what I mean...

    Ethics of Killing POWs

I'd tell the party it's him or me and be prepared to play a new character. We had a similar situation recently. We captured a guard. My cleric of Pelor was willing to heal him, but the condition was that we don't harm or torture him. After all, the blessings of Pelor aren't there to heal, then...

    Alignment Contriversy

I've never been a big fan of "alignment" defining the character. Rather, I tend to prefer letting folks actions dictate what their alignment is. Play the character for a while, and the alignment he/she really is will show itself...

    Houston Game Club?

Yeah, we are still trucking along. Somehow I got drafted into being DM :] Both the Friday and Sat groups are about the same level, 7th-9th. It's been pretty fun. They are currently treking through RttToEE in the Sat game. In the Friday game (I don't think you ever played with them, mostly the...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

Yeah, I allowed it because I saw the potential to have some good role playing, and it gave me an easy way to get the players some background info on where they are (RttToEE). Unfortunately, this is what actually transpired (to the best of my recollection)... Necromancer and the party meet, a...

Anyone else think dragons are too powerful?

Spoilers below... The group I'm running in RttToEE did a pretty nice job of handling the green dragon in the mines, and they were an average party level of a little over 7. While they did not kill it, they managed to fight it to a draw on two separate occasions with no loss of party members...

How often does Grappling happen in your game?

It happens every now and again. [My players, stop reading now!!!!] Unfortunately, I suspect in the next session they are getting ready to get torn up by a few grapplers...

    Houston Game Club?

That's kind of surprising. I've thought that the Houston area was relatively dead... we've been trying to find 1-2 players for the Friday/Sat groups for a while now... Maybe we just suck. :D

    Houston Game Club?

Not I. Have our regular Friday game starting in 15 minutes and I'll probably spend sometime tomorrow preparing for the Sat game I'm running... I think some of the players from our general groups are going though (I don't know if you remember Eric or not, but he's supposed to be there tomorrow...

Your best fight vs. an anti-Paladin

I observed this one. Player was the super gung-ho, holy roller paladin type that is pious in everything except humility. He has his holy sword, is a walking bad ass and takes nothing from no one. This was 2nd Edition. The party was involved in a bit of a deal with the devil as it is. A...

Can a Swift/Immediate Action be Used as a Standard Action?

Too lazy to read the whole thread. Per the RAW I don't believe it is possible. We house rule that.

    Spring Attack or 2-Weapon Fighting

I'm currently toiling with the same question for my 9th level Spellthief/Shadowdancer.... On one hand, I like the prospect of multiple attacks. On the other hand, the whole "hide in plain sight" and "spring attack" sounds pretty damned vicious...

    Paladin's moral codes

I'm always reminded of the following statement: Lawful good does not equal lawful stupid. It would be lawful stupid to not sneak into an orc city IMO. I don't expect (and in fact, I discourage) lawful stupid paladins in my game.

Characters coming and going (your opinion)

It's just a character. Sheesh. Tell him if his character was so important to him, he wouldn't have left. heh

    Torturing a PC (a bit)

I agree, to a degree. I have a barbarian in my group that got a particularly vicious critical (custom house rule) that imposed a limp. That said, I saw no need to inflict a tangible game result. Rather, it was used to provide more depth to the character description, etc. Personally, that is...
