What are the big non-d20/non-D&D Game Systems?

It's kinda funny... I've _never_ met a single person that plays the game. Never knew anyone that even knew there was an rpg. Only the minis. That covers a 20 year span, and living all over the U.S. and in Canada too. But online, yeah I see it talked about. A quiet under-current, but it's there...

What are the big non-d20/non-D&D Game Systems?

I'm sure Hunter: The Vigil will get plenty of support from White Wolf...or at least 3 books. I've no idea if it's a "limited" deal like Promethian is/was or not. Witch Hunter is a different product, and currently has 4 products: Core Rule book Monster Book Adventure Character Journal...

[Non-d20] Witch Hunter: Invisible World - my impressions

I wish I could, but for various reasons I can't get the book until Jan/Feb of 09. So for now I'm just going to have to rely on either my own homebrewed bits or the corebook.

[Non-d20] Witch Hunter: Invisible World - my impressions

Thanks for taking the time to post here. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm just criticizing things. I'm honestly not trying to do that. I figured I'd post how things came across to me, and maybe point out stuff that other folks might not know of. Or that I could be corrected about, and that way...

    s15. requirements and multiple sources

Thanks for the replies. The giant s15 did seem like it was probably going to be what I had to do. Someone also pointed me to the True 20 license which also makes an explicit reference to itself. Flynn, I appreciate the offer. However, I'm probably going to go with duplicating your s15, since a...

What non-4e would you play if there was no OGL at all?

I'd go with some other game entirely. I mean, I've got my RC book, and I've still got my Red and Blue Boxes too. That's fine if I feel like some classic D&D. But for rpg play in general? Another game. What game? Man, I can't list 'em all. But at this point, there's so many games out there...

    Do TPKS end campaigns?

I've never seen a "campaign" survive a TPK. Folks make new characters and move on to some other adventure/campaign. I've seen a couple of GMs try and TPK a group and then "continue", but none of the player's hearts were in it.

Worldbuilding - One of the joys of GM/DMing?

Actually, no. It _hasn't_ fallen into disfavor with most GMs. The people like me that _aren't_ into worldbuilding are the ones that are in the minority. M John Harrison made a post to his blog (the blog is now gone) which created a huge storm when folks read it. Both writers (mostly...

Out of Print games You Miss...

Earthdawn and Warhammer Fantasy are still in print. Fantasy Flight Games is handling Warhammer Fantasy: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/wfrp/ Earthdawn is handled by RedBrick Limited: http://www.earthdawn.com/ With Earthdawn you can buy PDFs (drivethru/rpgnow) or you can buy Print on Demand...

    Guns in a fantasy setting

I'm actually going to be doing a Secret of Zir'An game tomorrow. I've also run a d20 game for the past year that's had magitech firearms in it. Can guns work in a d20 (or other fantasy) game? Sure. Note I said "guns", not just "firearms". It's something to think about. The thing I've noticed...

    s15. requirements and multiple sources

I think I've got an ok handle on how the OGL works. At least, ok enough for doing any kind of homebrew project that I'd be posting. But I _do_ want to make sure that I do stuff right, especially since I'm looking at creating an SRD from a game where the company doesn't exist and the authors...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder RPG AR3 -- Review

Odd. I was wishing they'd actually push the envelope and not worry so much about backwards compatibility. In fact from my perspective, they're really not changing very much. More like putting a new coat of paint on. I'll probably pick up the book next year though. I dig the art and while I wish...

Out of Print games You Miss...

As a possible salve, there is the toolkit that Phil Reed did up and released for free. You can find it here: http://www2.seraphim-guard.com/content/view/42/77/ Talislanta is still in print. It's probably going to be _out_ of print soon, but it's been moving along quietly. You can pick up the...

[Non-d20] Witch Hunter: Invisible World - my impressions

Ah, now see... instead of folks getting into a system war, I think it'd be cool if a couple of "counter points" were offered up. Sure, I plan on talking about Witch Hunter in this thread...that's what I made it for. :D But it's not like there's actually a lot of games that are covering this...

    [Meta-Troll]

Posts a random happy-hippy post wondering why people can't just get along, indulges in some random gamer theory, has an overly long post analyzing previous posters in relation to the theory, and proves conclusively that all the previous posters were in fact wrong, didn't know what they were...

    Describing Non-Physical Hitpoint Loss?

Part of the problem is, I don't see a whole lot of stuff that does Hit Point damage _except_ physical stuff. Morale and so forth always seems to be described as a penalty to the dice roll, not as damage to hit points. It's an argument that's been going on for years. The system itself basically...

[Non-d20] Witch Hunter: Invisible World - my impressions

And here's a repost of an idea I had regarding the skill system. It might be poor form to quote/reply to yourself, but I said I'd come back to this and this is how I'm doing it.:) I'm going to be starting up play with my wife in a game called "The Secret of Zir'An". Don't worry if you haven't...

[Non-d20] Witch Hunter: Invisible World - my impressions

I cross-posted this over at rpg.net and have a couple of bits.. I made an error and said that Mary was an "Animus" type thing. It's been pointed out that it's "animist", as "animus" means "resentment". Totally right. I meant "animist", I was thinking "animis", and my fingers (fickle betrayers...

    Best d20 Supers game?

If you're not sure, you can always take a look at the core system (PDQ) here for free: http://www.atomicsockmonkey.com/freebies.asp I'm a _major_ fan of Zorcerer of Zo, which uses a slightly modified version of that same core. Truth & Justice is pretty groovy, but it pretty much heads the...
