True20 is the ONLY 20 for me!

Couple more points which led me to adopt True20 as my primary system of choice: 1. Prep time for adventures is a mere fraction of what it would be for most other RPG games. Really, you just think of something you want the system to do and *poof.* Also, you can convert material and mechanics...

Tell me about Warhammer Fantasy, please

You left out “betrayed" before the dying in the ditch alone bit. And people do care a great deal about your dying character- Heck, they're been waiting the whole campaign to strip it of everything of value before they spit on your corpse and walk away from it, forgetting you even had a name in...

True20 is the ONLY 20 for me!

And this, perhaps, is the making or breaking selling point of True20 in general. It is, above all else, a toolkit rather than a complete RPG game. If you love tinkering around and making your own settings (as I do) True20 is very good for that. If, on the other hand, you just want to open the...

    Best system for horror... Thoughts?

As others have said, either BTVS RPG or True20 would fit well. And hey! Let's not forget that True20 now has a sanity loss system out in one of their new setting products.

Tell me about Warhammer Fantasy, please

WHFRP is a great game. Just remember not to get frustrated if your fledgling character tends to “suck” a little. That’s just the way it works... So better save those Fate Points for when you really need them!

Sacred Cow Death Watch: Do you use material components?

I just assume that the characters have what they need on them in order to cast spells- It’s just a part of the spell preperation process. In short, I see spell components as little more than flavor cosmetics, and not something that should get in the way of the game. From time to time, I’ve...

True20 is the ONLY 20 for me!

Don't forget that the spell slot system has been replaced by smoother mechanics as well!

Favorite System that Never Caught On

Buffy The Vampire Slayer RPG. I always wished Eden had released the cinematic Unisystem variation separately, so non-fans of the show could have fun gaining and burning Drama Points too. Most of all, I hope that True20 catches on more, so it will be easier to find other players.

True20 is the ONLY 20 for me!

True20 is our default system of choice these days, and it is by far my favorite system to have ever hit the market (after nearly 15+ years of gaming experience.) I love how intuitive the core mechanics are, and how smooth the system runs in actual play. Being able to run just about any setting...

How Many New Systems have you bought?

Well, I’ve already sworn in blood that I’m only going to buy rules-lite systems from now on… So if any more rules-lite fantasy games show up, I’ll probably take a look at them.

    The glory of OD&D

I can’t tell if the OP is joking or not, but I will say that if it weren’t for True20 and C&C, I would have gone back to OD&D myself long before now.

4th ed -- yeah, but are you actually ready to leave behind the 3rd?

Meh. Unless 4E is exactly like True20, only somehow even more improved, I don't think I'll even bother flipping through it.

Old school/new school definitions -- meaningless?

I don’t disagree with any of the points that have been made thus far… And yet I’ll still wager that I could walk into any gaming convention in the country and the majority of the gamers there would have a sense of what I mean by “old school” and “new school.” Sure, there is potential for...

Old school/new school definitions -- meaningless?

Although I agree that “old school” may be a difficult term to pin down, I think it is a far cry from "meaningless." Perhaps "old school" and "new school" are best thought of as collections of abstract tendencies, rather than anything concrete. For example, if a GM were to say that he was going...

    Your own personal gaming terms...

“Was it flame? Let me show you how it's done.” A Final Fantasy reference. It means that the player wants to cast the same spell at his enemies that was just cast at him. “I stop, drop, and roll for sanity.” A CoC RPG reference. Used whenever someone says or does something completely insane...

Is The Forest Oracle a well-designed adventure module?

I believe that this old thread will clear up any questions in this matter: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=148566

Is The Orc and The Pie a well-designed adventure module?

I once thought about writing a techno-thriller called “Orc & Pi” but then passed my sanity check and didn’t.

    Gut-feelings and new players

I’ve made the mistake of ignoring my gut feeling far too often in the past. I don’t do that anymore.

Attack of Opportunity -- does it deserve to survive to v.4?

No. Just... No. It should neve have existed in the first place. Time to do the right thing and put that rabid animal down.

    looking for a new system

The ideal system you described sounds just like True20! Go check it out. You'll be amazed at how simple and universal it is, without a fraction of the prep-time or clunk of 3.5. You can run just about any setting or genre with it, and you can even port things you do like from other D20 books.
