Is it time for a low-magic setting?

::Nods:: Low magic works OK at the first few levels of play, but then the game kind of breaks down. Armor Class, for example, is problematic- Without magic items to boost it, combat gets to the point where everyone can hit everyone else all the time... Which means that your PCs are badly...

The Second page: where threads go to die? (poll)

If nothing really interests me on the first page, I’ll look at the second page. Every once in a while I'll remember reading a post where somebody said something brain-dead-foolish, but I didn’t feel like typing up a response to it myself. When I remember these special moments, I’ll check back...

    Time Travel!! (2 reviews inside!!)

I can’t believe more people aren’t talking about the Dr. Who RPG in a time travel thread! As fanatics of the show, we used to time travel quite a lot in that game- In fact, one of my favorite things about the Dr.WRPG was that it had some kind of “time travel misshap” chart. If not careful, you...

    Is D&D Your Primary RPG?

It was until life got a little too complicated between my job and my wife. I've since switched to True20 and C&C. Occasionally, I’ll use M&M as a "toolkit" system to mimic anything else I need.

    Is D&D Your Favorite RPG?

I prefer rules-lite game systems that require minimal prep time and model abstract combat, so True20 and C&C are at the top of my list. But I’m not ready to sell off my 3.X books just yet- after all, it’s probably the easiest system to find players for anywhere in the country?

Dragons - how often do you use them?

Well, in the setting I created, there is only one of each type of dragon left in the world. They’re not very active, tend to their own business (amassing ancient artifacts and forbidden knowledge, etc) and stay far away from the shot-lived affairs of mortals. It has been folklore for many...

The Iconics are out in force

You know, I always thought that she looked far more like an "ALF" than an "elf."

Do You Prefer a Cinematic Combat System?

I’m going to interpret this question as “Do you prefer abstract combat systems over tactical ones in role playing games.” In which case, my answer would be “YES” a billion times over. In fact, I’m not sure I’ve ever met anyone else who loathes tactical combat within RPGs as much as I do. (If...

[Game a Day 16] Werewolf: the Apocalypse

No. Oh no. Oh GAWD no. Never mention S.H. To merely utter that name is to invite The Dread Curse Of Twinkdom upon your gaming table for all of eternity.

Keep the belt. Get rid of the character.

What is the Problem with Union!

30th level guards!?! Huh? Why would anyone be a guard there, when they could be living as a legendary king anywhere else?

[Game a Day 16] Werewolf: the Apocalypse

H:TR was my absolute favorite WW gameline. As I saw it, Hunter was a game about ordinary people losing their humanity in order to save it, and never with any full idea of what’s really going on or why- A game about watching your character slowly become a “monster” in order to survive in a...

    M&M hands down. No question.

Where To Start? Plotting the Plot.

I think on one major definitive, dramatic scene or event that encompasses everything that I want the game to be “about” thematically. I peg this point as my “middle.” Then, I figure out the events leading up to this point, and the events after it. This is my “unaltered timeline” of the...

    GURPS-Share your thoughts

GRUPS was always one of those games that I wanted so much to like. I loved the way that game handles character creation. I loved the freedom of having a universal system that could run any setting I could imagine. Off and on, I had some good times with GURPS. But in the end, the system was...

Do you miss the good old days? Boxed sets and single books.

Back in the good ol’ days, I remember that the single most appealing advantage that Warhammer FR had over D&D to me was that everything you needed to play was all in one book. I liked that. A lot. To this day, I still prefer RPGs that only require one book to play, with the one exception of C&C.

    Oh no Conan just DIDNT!

I’ve always wanted a painting of The King with pointy ears. So I can tell everyone who asks that it’s “Elf-vis.”
