    Ray of Frost

Maybe because Ray of Frost automatically slows opponents that it hits, as well as does almost the same amount of damage as an MM?

    Minion Status: Private or Public?

And I couldn't disagree with this more... Daily's aren't something PCs should use lightly. if the battle is tough, or they are losing, THEN they should use their daily's... They should save it up for when they need it, not just because a DM told them they were only facing minions. In one of...

    Minion Status: Private or Public?

Think of a great fantasy book you might have read. Maybe something by R.A. Salvator, Robert Jordan, or Weis/Hickman depending on your tastes. Now imagine a heroic fight scene where our protagonists are hacking through swarms of creatures, taking them out with their impressive skill and combat...

    swarm of minions attack!

Just because you *can* do a thing, doesn't mean you *should.*

    Minion Status: Private or Public?

There's usually an equipment difference in what minions carry versus what others carry. At least for kobolds. There's no reason at all players should know, definitively, whether they're facing minions or not. In the case of kobolds, there are kobolds with slings, with bows, with orbs, and...

    Two Example Skill Challenges

A skill challenge is a situation requiring more action than one character could hope to achieve on their own, a combination of skills from multiple players. Success at one can provide bonuses to success at another. If you've already been playing that way, great! But as has been proven time...

    Two Example Skill Challenges

The problem with letting one character do all the skill checks, as I described in my previous postings, that there is often a time limit to a skill challenge. Being noticed by guards, blocking a door before a baddie can get in. I suppose if you wanted to wait around for 3 rounds while a...

    Two Example Skill Challenges

Thank you for pointing that out... there's nothing that says anything HAS to be a skill challenge. A rogue can still just disarm a trap, a fighter can still just try to bash down a door. These skill challenges just provide a fun way for the entire party to get involved.

    Two Example Skill Challenges

Well, Kathra was a fighter. Riardon a ranger. The assistants were a paladin and a wizard. While they were pushing the bookcase, the warlock and cleric were getting the back door open so everyone could escape, since a large group of city guards were only 2 rounds away from mobbing them. No...

    Two Example Skill Challenges

In Escape from Sembia, a skill challenge was shifting a very heavy bookcase in front of a door. The two strongest characters got to be "in the spotlight", with two other characters providing an assist. Kathra easily made her skill check, but Riardon failed his. Riardon's assistant failed...

    Two Example Skill Challenges

From what I saw, Skill challenges offer the option to "assist", where another character can add a bonus to another character's skill check. A successful assist might be along the lines of holding a wire out of the way so your primary bomb guy could clip the right one. Failure doesn't hurt, it...

    Excerpts: Angels

Angels are radiant beings. Therefore they are resistant to radiant damage in the same way fire elementals are resistant to fire damage. Conversely, undead take additional damage from radiant attacks. I don't see the disconnect?

    D&D 4E 4e questions after a playtest

Ranged and area attacks provoke OA's... So firing a bow, casting a magic missile, etc. would earn an attack. But they could use their move action to shift away, one square out of range, and then cast their spell with no problem

    D&D 4E 4e questions after a playtest

Lots of little questions... I think most all of them are mentioned in the PHB lite. I'll answer to the best of my recollection. 1) There is no firing into melee penalty anymore. 2) A shift is a full-move action, a 5-foot step (1 square) that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. A...

D&D 4E My Warlord Concept - Why Does 4e Fail?

Uh... Yes, that's quite the "fair chance" you're giving it. Nitpicking and hating it even BEFORE you even come up with the character isn't the best way to go in with an open mind, I suspect.

    Excerpts: Angels

Although the DDM Angel of Vengeance bears remarkably little similarity to the one in the excerpt... I wonder if this is true of all the DDM stats we've been looking at to get some idea of their MM counterparts?

    Disarming a character from powers?

That is a HUGE step backwards. Are wizards the only class you're going to require to be able to speak and have extra components to use their inherent powers, or are you going to require warriors to use VSM also? Wizards are magic, they can use ghost sound as a cantrip whether they can wave...

Your role? Nothing matters but combat.

I'd just like to point out that I ran part of Raiders of Oakhurst with a few friends last night... an old gaming group that hadn't done much together since 2nd edition, but who were all curious about the new system. We were only able to play for two hours, and would you like to know how many...

    D&D 4E Sooo... 4e Video Games?

Here here! The gold box games were great. I don't understand the resistance to turn-based play, it's the only way to get the D&D experience in a computer game. Games like NWN where you're trying to get off spells and the monsters can just chase you around hitting you regardless are NOT D&D...
