[Adventure]: The Bane of the Black Dragon (DM: Dimsdale, Judge ??)

Prime watches the group as they savagely beat themselves to break the statue. +++Thankfully, your crazy-fu was greater than whoever created this'. Now Vlastodes and the orb shouldn't be far, let's not wate more time+++ While writing that, the construct's oil leak caused by Sharpe stops...

Victories and No Defeats in D&D

You're not taking the monster's stuff. Indeed, to be taken prisoner often involves the monster taking your stuff, which is often, literally, a fate worse than death.

    L&L 3/05 - Save or Die!

I wonder how tying near death (being at 0 HP or less) to those effects would work. Normally being reduced to 0 HP means you’re unconscious, but easily revived by any kind of healing, so it’s frequently not a big deal depending on edition. But if some special effect triggers on being at 0 HP from...

    Psionics - core or not?

In other mythologies I’ve found examples of enlightened people with capabilities very similar to what we understand as psionics; they almost always are spiritual people and could be classified as priests, but the supernatural feats they are capable of are described as result of their superior...

Old School : Tucker's Kobolds and Trained Jellies

That’s true, but I wasn’t thinking on that. Expanding on what I wanted to say in the first quote, the problems so to speak are first that many rules have little fluff providing context. In the example mentioned in the OP, I’d have no qualms declaring that the origami collection is burned since...

Which class do you hate the most?

Same goes for me. Cleric is IMO the most gamist creation introduced into D&D. Also guilty of the division between sources of magic, which is something I've not seen in any fiction work I remember, and makes any adaptation doubly difficult.

Old School : Tucker's Kobolds and Trained Jellies

Well, it's a bit wanting in how and why things work for many mechanics and powers. This makes a lot of effects and plans dificult to adjudicate.

L&L: Putting the Vance in Vancian

I'm ok with not calling at will spells "spells". Instead they should be named, for example, Mystical Incantation-Like Faculties.

D&D Blog - Just Bigger Numbers

I'm afraid we're talking about different things. I agree that teleporting is better than walking, but my point is that all that implies is moving your character a distance. It's mechanical complexity is equal or even lesser than walking (because in tactical play walking may trigger things like...

D&D Blog - Just Bigger Numbers

Can I ask why this: Implies a more complex gameplay? At first level you can move 20 feet. At 20 you teleport 40 feet. Big deal, unless you consider that counting 8 squares is fundamentally more complex than counting 4. Also, it seems they think that a supernatural feat of strength when...

D&D Blog - Kings and Castles

I strongly dislike rules with an implied setting, so imagine what i think with rules with an implied campaign. IMO this is another poll in the "Which one of these trees is the true forest?" series
