D&D 5E (2024) (+) New Edition Changes for Inclusivity (discuss possibilities)

Perhaps we could do something to make Berserker a subclass of a class called Wayfarer. Ranger could be another subclass. - or keep Ranger as the class, and make Berserker and Wayfarers subclasses? The basic class is a character who is comfortable outdoors, and has skills to suit.

    D&D 5E (2014) Simple magic crit fails

Summons don't have rolls. Which I agree, is a missed opportunity where critical fails are involved - and very in theme for a critical fail.

    D&D 5E (2014) Simple magic crit fails

That does also suggest the blowback scaling with spell level. Perhaps cantrips only do one point of damage on blowback, while leveled spells do 1d4? Or 1d4 for levels 1-2, 1d6 for levels 3-4, 1d8 for levels 5-6, 1d10 levels 7-8, 1d12 for level 9 spells? Non-damage spells wouldn't change. I...

D&D 5E (2024) (+) New Edition Changes for Inclusivity (discuss possibilities)

But isn't someone supposed to be able to play the the game with just the PHB? At least at low levels.

    D&D 5E (2014) Simple magic crit fails

That's an idea. Should the critical failures scale with the level of the spell cast?

D&D 5E (2024) (+) New Edition Changes for Inclusivity (discuss possibilities)

You'll need some default cultures, or otherwise you have a Player's Handbook that isn't a complete game. I suggest replacing "subrace" options with culture options.

    D&D 5E (2014) Simple magic crit fails

In this thread @rustydm asks for spell failure mechanics. He appears to be looking for published material - perhaps as form of quality control. But it did inspire me to create this simple rule system: Aside from the whole issue of critical fails being more dangerous to PCs than NPC's, are...

Mechanics for spell failure & consequences

Hmm... a failure/blowback would logically happen on a roll of a 1 by the caster, or a 20 by the saving throw target. But to avoid too much, you'd limit it to the first attack roll or save, since spells may have multiple of either. The blowback could be 1d4 damage based on the damage type of the...

WotC WotC is hiring Senior Manager for Diversity, equity and inclusion.

Yeah, to use the fact that WotC uses corporate language to advertise a corporate position, in an attempt to discredit either WotC's sincerity or the position's utility, is really stretching it.

WotC WotC is hiring Senior Manager for Diversity, equity and inclusion.

Yeah, the ad looks more like they're looking for someone to help them choose the right designers, or help development teams to find the right people, to help with diversity issues.

D&D General Why can Giant Eagles, Giant Elk, and Giant Owls speak?

Actually, parrots are pretty good at mimicking the sounds of speech, including those you'd think need lips.

D&D General The Appearance of Female Goblins

I was dismayed when I bought a bunch of kenku minis off a kickstarter, to find some of them had mammaries. Kenku are birds!

D&D General How long does a body take to decompose in a bag of holding? (Asking for a friend...)

Hmmm... true, I don't recall any text to say you couldn't. I guess it's what you get when you expect consistency from a fantasy game.

Time is implied to pass, as you begin to suffocate after ten minutes.

    Last of Us 2 discussion

Abby is a bit hard to get on with. Mel is right to be concerned about her and Owen. But then, Ellie becomes more monstrous as her arc goes on. Neither of them are exemplary human beings - part of the whole vengeance obsession issue. But you don't have to like them to understand where they're...

How do you feel about learning new rule systems?

If someone's running a different genre, and everyone's on board, I'll learn a new game system. Not keen on the process though. Back when I was in my 20's it was different - I'd swallow new game systems whole! Even Champions!

D&D 5E (2014) Alignment vs. Morality, and the Consequences of Delaying Development of the Planes

This is creative, and I like it. I'd probably be even more amused if I knew what song it was riffing on. :)
