Doctor Who teaser (launch Oct 31st)

I guess it's the "leave them wanting more" philosophy. :(

    D&D 5E (2014) Barb/Fighter vs pure Barbarian?

For story reasons I've started 1lvl fighter, then barbarian going forward. I see him as the disintegrating veteran.

D&D 5E (2014) The Philosophy Behind Randomized and Standardized Ability Scores

Our DM rolled 4d6 drop low 7 times, dropped the lowest, and let us each use the resulting six stats in the best order for our class/character. Simple, even, fair.

D&D Movie/TV D&D Movie: Action Packed, Funny as Hell

The latest Jumanji movies show a game movie with a strong meta-game element can definitely work, and if they include the meta-game element, I hope they look to this as inspiration. Also kickass action/comedy movies, so it can work, and I think the majority of viewers liked the action, comedy...

D&D 5E (2014) Tracy & Laura Hickman Announce Skyraiders of Abarax

I'm thinking Dragon Sylph is the name of a flying ship The wording is odd because it's part of a poem, which you can see by checking out the other images. This is effectively a teaser trailer, more to whet the appetite than give a clear explanation.

D&D General Has the meaning of Roleplaying changed? my own thought.

My experience as someone who was 19 in '82 when I started playing, was that different groups had different ideas about what role-playing was, and whenever you joined a new group you had to feel your way through to what level it was rolling dice, and what level it was about playing a theatrical...

    D&D 5E (2014) Barb/Fighter vs pure Barbarian?

I want to make the Warhammer trope doomseeker/trollslayer. Which is better: full Barbarian, or Barb/Fighter? We're starting level 1, so I'm tempted to start with Fighter 1 to get two weapon fighting. Rolls were 18, 13, 15, 11, 12, 9, so with Mountain Dwarf we get 20, 13, 17, 11, 12, 9.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Beyond Cancels Competition

Ok, I gave up on page 12, so if I missed a rejoinder to this or someone else brought this up, I apologise. But it seems to me 'competition' schemes take advantage of the same issue that causes gambling: the vast majority of humans are really poor judges of odds. So it encourages a lot of...

    D&D General Critical Role Ending

I think the perfect moment of D&D is when fantasy trope plus system use plus die roll all fall perfectly together. The risk it could have gone wrong, but didn't is part of that perfect moment. See Laura/Jester's cupcake moment. She could have failed to persuade the witch to eat it. The spell she...

    D&D General Critical Role Ending

All the folk in Critical Role come from theatrical careers or backgrounds, not a group known for their love of math or rules. And the game may be broadcast to entertain us, but it also has a major goal of entertaining the players and DM.

    D&D General Critical Role Ending

Actually they changed from Pathfinder to 5e D&D because Pathfinder was too crunchy for live play. As you do say further down, they've only got limited attention to pay to both the rules and the role-play; some handle this better than others.

    Person of Interest

(reads article): Oh, dear. But then, I think John Reese was the least interesting character on the show. Not only that, but I thought the ending implied that his part in the conspiracy was going to be taken up by others anyway.

    D&D General Critical Role Ending

Printing chocolate 3d minis shouldn't be too hard to extrapolate from current tech. I think there's a 50/50 chance that the next campaign will be set somewhere else than Exandria. Or at least on a yet-unknown continent. Matt Mercer loves to explore his worlds with his players.
