What are the primary reasons your players reject other systems/settings/games?

My main group doesn't usually reject systems. Whoever is GMing chooses the system. I usually run GURPS. Others have run GURPS, 5e, Cthulhu, Blades, and various ultra-lights (most recently, "Death was the Only Road Out of Town").

What fantasy creatures migrate with the seasons?

A recent campaign of mine featured a migrating forest that had a profound impact on the region. (The earth behind the forest was especially fertile and almost pre-tilled.) We had a lot of fun with the idea. In this case, though, the trees were not fully sapient.

D&D General Players: Do You Care From Whence Your DM Gets His Monsters/Challenges?

Don't care one bit. As long as the story coheres and we're having fun, the DM can invent and plunder to their heart's content.

    “Monstrous” NPCs

This is bizarre. There have been examples of monstrous companions, quest givers, or advisors as far back as I can think of: Glabbagool in Out of the Abyss, Meepo in The Sunless Citadel, the lizardfolk in Danger at Dunwater, the Phanaton or Rakasta on the Isle of Dread (even the Aranea)... off...

It's been so long since the last GURPS edition, that the present day is now in the "future" tech level

Heh. I enjoyed that book, and, at least tangential to the thread topic, I’ve run numerous GURPS adventures for one of the author’s kids!

It's been so long since the last GURPS edition, that the present day is now in the "future" tech level

I just finished running a GURPS Monster Hunters campaign for my group. It was my first time running an extended Monster Hunters scenario. We had a blast: uncovering the secret of a lost cult, a gunfight with mafia thugs in a seedy motel, magic rituals in a diner parking lot, hobnobbing with an...

D&D General Who was your first character, and do you still play them?

It was around 1980, Holmes Basic with chits instead of dice. I still recall the excitement of fumbling for the little things inside these old waxy paper cups. My dad was the DM running In Search of the Unknown for my brother and me at the dining room table. I was a magic user with 2 hit points...

What Should An Introductory Scenario Look Like?

I don't like intro scenarios to be too sandboxy; it's ok for things to be a bit linear for first-timers. The adventure backstory should be tightly written—just a few paragraphs. Beyond that, as others have mentioned, it's helpful to include situations that intentionally highlight particular...

    Isle of the... Ahem... Lost

Remnants of former groups who have been stranded on the island. It could be just their remains and detritus (including, perhaps, useful information in journals), or there might be one or more survivors (sane or not). There could even be a rival group that knows a bit more about the island and...

I enjoyed this writeup. FYI, the author's last name is Riggsby (with an "s"). I love his work.

D&D General Turgenev's Friday Freebie Maps

For Monday Blues Map #142, posted on Nov. 4, you repeated the Map Details from #141. I didn't notice when you first posted it, but I just downloaded the bundle and saw the repetition.

D&D General Turgenev's Friday Freebie Maps

Great map! I think you included the wrong number in your "Map Details" section. The depression is in area 18 (I think), not 17.

    Aphantasia and Role Playing Games

My experience is different, which probably just means that brains are really complicated things. I have been a voracious reader for my whole life. The only reason I ever stop reading is when adulting gets in the way. Prior to learning that I have aphantasia, I would have said that I "picture"...
