Which edition change changed the game the most?

I'm with Merric. Where is the option for Supplement I, Greyhawk? Unquestionably the biggest edition change in D&D history and the push that got the whole splatbook/edition churn ball rolling.

I Don’t Care What WotC is Doing

If someone doesn't care about the future of the game, that kind of implies that they won't care that their not caring might have an impact on the future of the game. No?

Fun vs. Reality: a false dichotomy?

There is no Realism vs. Fun dichotomy. There IS a Work vs. Fun dichotomy. To the extent that Realism requires me to do significantly more work than Abstraction, Realism isn't fun. If a game designer can give me Realism without requiring a lot of in-game bookkeeping or time-wasting I'm all for...

D&D 4E Book of Vile Darkness: What do you want in it?

What I'd like to see in a BoVD 4e... NPC class templates for evil NPCs Evil races for evil NPCs Lots of evil rituals with suggestions for plot hooks and related skill challenges. Lots of evil magic items with backstory and suggestions for plot hooks and how to use them in the game without just...

D&D 4E When the time eventually comes, will you play a retro-clone of 4e?

When the time comes, I'll probably play 4e if I want to play 4e. I love what the retro-clones have done for the out-of-print D&D editions in terms of new adventures, but I'm not a big fan of using them as games in themselves.

Do you think WoTC should be sued?

Your post is destroying my enjoyment of the ENWorld forum. Expect to hear from my lawyers sir. I hope this makes you realize that what you've been doing to those who are passionate about ENWorld.

    Why Do You Subscribe?

The character builder is great. I wouldn't want to play 4e without it. The monster builder is also pretty good. I could run 4e without it, but it's a nice tool to have. The Compendium is very hand, although I use it a lot less now that I have the Essentials RC. Dragon has occasionally had...

Scott Thorne, a retailer, comments on recent events

I knew I'd forget something. :D It looks like they are cutting back on print products overall, but I'd say what is left is more of an even split between DM-centric and player-centric than we were used to. Essentials pretty much split things down the middle. Compendium is useful for both. Two...

    WotC: Re-issue older editions.

There is an entire segment of the RPG market that caters to fans of legacy editions of D&D. The most popular products in that market generally sell several hundred copies over their lifetime. Taking resources away from making products for the current edition of D&D in order to generate the...

    Another solid article - Strongholds

I really like this article. It had a lot of rules that I don't agree with, but the underlying ideas were great. I have been subscribing to Dragon since 1981 and I've never expected the articles in there to be perfectly balanced or without flaws. In fact, as optional rules, I expect to modify...

WotC, really? No...really? You can't maintain a publishing schedule?

You are assuming that these policy changes reflect changes to internal scheduling and deadlines. You also seem to assume they reflect some reduction in the amount of supervision and management that the writing and development people will be experiencing. I think those assumptions aren't very...

WotC, really? No...really? You can't maintain a publishing schedule?

OK. I admit it. You've convinced me. It would definitely be in WotC's best interest and the interest of their DDI customers to slow their schedule for the release of content and sit on completed content in order to give the illusion that articles are never completed earlier or later than their...

D&D from miniature wargame to RPG to board game

I think WotC's stated intentions to keep the Essentials line in retail distribution and the fact that they are planning on releasing plenty of new physical D&D products (at least 6 through June of 2011) argues heavily against your prediction.

Scott Thorne, a retailer, comments on recent events

Companies that have two options for distributing their product will choose the one that generates the most profit. It doesn't mean that one is profitable and the other one is losing money, it means if you think you can make more money by focusing on one instead of doing both, it makes good sense...

    My love letter to WotC

Changes always seem "relatively minor" when it is someone else making them. :erm:

WotC, really? No...really? You can't maintain a publishing schedule?

Again, "well in advance" of what? An arbitrary release date? That might be the norm for publishing dead tree materials where the product needs time to make its way through distribution channels so that it can be available at all retail outlets on the day of release. But that doesn't necessarily...

WotC, really? No...really? You can't maintain a publishing schedule?

It seems to me that a small amount of built-in flexibility facilitates that goal much better than a rigid arbitrary deadline. Again, if we're talking about an online e-zine, why wouldn't you release the "complete ahead of time" articles when they are done, instead of sitting on them for days or...

WotC, really? No...really? You can't maintain a publishing schedule?

If they have an article ready to go, why in the world would they hold onto it for a week rather than posting it right away??? You seem to be complaining (maybe I'm misunderstanding) that this looser scheduling will result in content coming out in a less timely manner, but then you turn around...
