What are you reading? (April 2005)

I'm currently on The Pillars of Creation, book seven in Terry Goodkind's The Sword of Truth saga (starts with Wizard's First Rule. These are spectacular books, a bit slow in book two or so, but amazing reads after that. Waiting with baited breath for the final novel in the War of the Spider...

    Sin City

I gave it a 5/10. I'm not really sure if I liked this movie or not; I'm coming away from the theatre with mixed feelings. I found lots of the film very enjoyable, but other parts had me feeling very "meh" about the whole thing. I'm not regretting having seen it, but I do wish I'd seen it at...

    Weapon Illustration Sketches

It's been a while since I've been by the boards here, but I'm glad to see you're still putting out quality stuff, Tetsubo. I got a hankering to do a bit of colorizing again, and plucked out one of your earlier axes (Steel Axe, axe97, not sure where it is in the thread, so a link), and came out...

Name the most evil character you've ever read/watched! [possible spoilers]

I'd say the villian in "Saw" was pretty bad. The movie was atrociously bad, but the villian had great potential. Setting people up to kill themselves while he watches in sadistic pleasure. One man had to crawl his way out of a maze of razor wire, gutting himself in the process. A woman had...

    [October] What Are You Reading?

Just finished The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown, and Douglass Preston / Lincoln Child's Still Life with Crows and Brimstone, all within a week. Started on Stephen King's The Stand finally, and should be finished by Thanksgiving (focusing more on school now, reading in my ever-shrinking spare time).

Rate Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow

Gave it a 6 myself. A pleasent way to spend $7.50, but not something I'm going to bother renting or purchasing. The visual effects were superb. They really captured the look they were going for, with the muted colours, the "light band across the eyes" shots, and such. I've not seen much of...

    Weapon Illustration Sketches

I've gotta chime in again here. I believe that the best part of these drawings is that even the most outlandish and absurd pieces still look like they could be weilded. A lot of art I see, especially the anime-influenced works, tend to favor "giganticism" and a...

ILM employees sign NDAs regarding Star Wars Episodes VII, VIII, IX

TPM and ESB weren't that bad, were they? ;)

Rate Alien vs Predator (No spoilers)

7/10. It's worth 5-8 dollars to go see, an hour-and-a-half romp of a flick. Not groundbreaking cinematography or story, but enjoyable enough to put a smile on your face. I will say that this movie should have been made with an "R" rating in mind, to keep in with the flavor and style of the...

    Online mapping/whiteboard software

I haven't used it much, but you may want to check out a Windows tool, NetMeeting. It comes included with XP Home i know, not sure on earlier OS versions. Not sure where it's installed at, but type conf in the Run... dialogue, that pulls it up. I know it has a whiteboard in it, not sure how...

Looking for someone to color an image! :)

Figured I'd give it a go on this one, so here's what I've got so far. Obviously unfinished, of course, but I'm pleased with it so far. Painting the other two figures comes next, then highlights/shadows & touchups. Enjoy! (a bump disguised as unfinished artwork ? surely not . . . )

    Elminster Novels

As far as Ed Greenwood goes, I think he's hit-and-miss. I really liked the Shadows of the Avatar Trilogy, and liked the Making of a Mage; however, I couldn't finish Temptation of Elminster, it was too boring for me.

Batman Begins: Pictures of the Bat-suit!

Best part about it... no Nipples! And yes, it does make him look fat.

    Quick: What was the last...

Watched "The Bourne Supremacy" last night, was pretty cool. Recently re-read Harry Potter 1-5 (so, ended with Order of the Phoenix), currently reading War of the Spider Queen 5, Annihilation, so take your pick. Last listened to "Lila," by country singer Lila McCaan. Just pulled it outta my...

    good art / Bad art

Let me add one thing to this: I do really like the pictures, especially if they're laid out similar to the PHB's equipment chapter; giving a side-by-side comparison to various weapons, sorta like ordering them from a catalogue. However, I would also like to see additional forms of art...

Wizards designer posts - Andy Collins

From what I gathered, a substitution class level is given at different places along your class progression. Upon hitting one of these levels, you can choose "I want to stay pure sorcerer," or "I will stay nearly pure, but swap out my sorcerer abilities at this level for planar abilities."

    good art / Bad art

There's a lot of art out there that is atrocious to look at, and a lot that one can look at and enjoy. Your work is in another, much smaller, set of art; beyond just "acceptable," these pieces are really nice. I especially liked looking at the sketches in the same thread with the finished...

    Actors that make you perk-up

Ashley Judd.... Oh, that's not what you meant... Seriously, anyone from "Geek Genre Entertainment" (Star Trek, LotR, Star Wars, other scifi-fantasy), just to see how/what they're doing in other places. Morgan Freeman is another, 'cuz he plays his parts so well; amazing actor. Christopher...
