    My First 4e TPK!

    Oooh, my bad.

    My First 4e TPK!

I wonder if a team with a few PHB2 characters would've fared better? (Doubt it, as the PHB2 is fairly well-balanced, in my opinion. But that was just the first thought to popped into my head). In a strange way, I'm kind of excited. I haven't heard of an honest-to-goodness TPK in 4e, or if it...

    I still don't understand Controllers

This. Both are quite true. Controllers were initially designed, I think, as the role that attacks multiple foes. The problem is, every class eventually gets access to these abilities. Status effects don't match up, either, especially with Rogues dazing and blinding everybody and Wardens slowing...

    I still don't understand Controllers

Controllers: 1. Attack multiple foes with ease (ie., via At-Wills) 2. Inflict status effects 3. Re-shape the battlefield with pushes, pulls, slides, and (sometimes) zones.

    D&D 4E Running Commentary on Rel's 4e Campaign (Complete 8/2/10)

Great stuff. I especially like the encounter with the spined devils... sounds like they got a surprise round? And having the broken portcullis as a limiting factor in the terrain is just brilliant. Very cinematic... I imagine somebody saying, "Hey, I think there's something back here" as they...

    Online source for 4e Traps/Hazards

What are you talking about? The DMG has fairly extensive rules on making your own monsters. Pages 184-185. All I want is a traps and hazards equivalent of that, and I'll be extremely happy.

    Online source for 4e Traps/Hazards

I'm assuming the DMG2 will contain lots of extra traps, and clear rules for making your own. At least, I hope that's what it will contain. That's really the only reason I'd buy it.

Races and Classes at a Very Casual Glance

I agree with this, myself. Guess I just caved to peer pressure in not including it. I also had trouble figuring out what Eladrin are 'good' at, beyond Wizards. Swordmages, certainly, but we're not using FRPG, so I didn't mention that. Are there any Dex/Int classes I'm forgetting? Or classes that...

Races and Classes at a Very Casual Glance

I'm getting together with my (extremely casual) group of players to DM a game this weekend. It's the first time we're playing since PHB2 came out, so I wanted to give them the option of making a shiny new character with the new class and race options. Since I'm the only person in the group who...

    Perception checks

Here's my problem with passive perception checks; if you know your party well enough, you'll know ahead of time whether or not they'll find it. Let's say you're making a level 1 dungeon. You know your party's Perception checks run the gamut from 10-22. If you make a secret door in the dungeon...

    The Warlock's Curse

Not a great benefit for Infernal Warlocks, sure. But it's pretty sweet for Star Pact Warlocks and Dark Pact Warlocks, since their boon stacks.

How does your warlord inspire you?

If anybody ever makes an OotS style comic about 4e, you know it'll have to have a Warlord as the party leader. They're just so hilarious and uniquely 4e. "Get up, you pansy!" "But... but I have a sword in my brain!" "Want me to kiss it better? Or do you want to GET UP AND SAVE THE DAMN WORLD...

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

The only problem with that is, by RAW and the DCs given in the MM, your 'Nature' check often ends up telling you a great deal about the creature's history, for some reason. Take, for example, the goblin entry: Huh? Why does a Nature check net you information on their Religion? Here, the Nature...

House Rules: If I show you mine, will you show me yours?

This is one I use, myself. Never understood why the hermit ranger or shaman who spent his whole life squatting in the woods would know all about the ancient hobgoblin empire, while the history buff wouldn't. Every other knowledge type has a creature type associated with it; why not humanoids and...

How does the wizard compare now?

Wow... you mean your controller actually controlled? That's so beautiful I think I might cry. I've had my doubts about the Wizard, but if you're telling me I can actually have a "You shall not pass!" moment with one, I'm rolling one up as soon as I can!

    MM2: Bebilith, low damage?

    That, sir, is deliciously evil.
  17. K

What sort of aerial support would this evil horde have?

As a player, I prefer the iconic and mythical over the weird and new. If you say to me, "there are marrashi flying overhead," I'll ask, "what the heck is a marrashi?" And then you'll explain it, but by then the moment is gone. But if you say there are manticore, wyverns, giant vultures, or...

MM2 - changing the hit points?

Hmm? The Ettin Spirittalker is from MM1. Were you just using it as a baseline for comparison? Or are they going to reprint MM1 monsters in MM2?

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

While I'm not an enormous fan of either dragonborn or tieflings, I think it was a good idea to include them in PHB as a 'core' race, even if they're not necessarily the most populous. It was really an act of mercy, for both players and DMs. I used to help run a freeform play-by-post website...

    The Immaculate Defence

It's even worse, actually, since Total Defense only lasts until the start of your next turn. All your turtling would be for naught, as the monster would just wait for you to 'drop your guard'. So all those pretty +s to AC you get from Defensive weapons and other features would have no effect...
