D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

On skill challenges: I tried the mini game style challenge at first and neither me or my players were very enamored with it. I didn't lay it out the Piratecat way though so I might consider that if I choose to try the style again. The last one I ran was a murder mystery where the...

Countdown-timer at Green Ronin...? What's it all about?

It's the timer until they run out of money. In all seriousness, no idea.

P1 King of the Trollhaunt Warrens - Fantastic!

So played another session. Much improved but that had little to do with the actual adventure I think and more with the DM. We finished freeing a ghost who had been bound by skullmad and he led us along a river and up a waterfall to the throne room. Using the warlock as an emissary (while I got...

Wilden Name Poll! -- Forked Thread: PH3 Playtest Race: Wilden

Ha! you win the thread. Best joke ever.

Any good 4e adventures that arent dungeon crawls?

That adventure could easily be reworked to have little combat if you up the traps and the cat and mouse feel a bit. A good adventure to adapt though. I ran it once in 2e and there were definitely a few too many combats so toning that down a smidge would be a nice touch.

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

More like a mainstream activity to do like poker. The recognition was good (89% is huge) but a follow up question among the 89% about how they perceived the brand would be interesting. This is very true. I think a paid campaign would help but I understand there are reasons you won't/can't do...

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

I was wondering if perhaps there were plans to bring D&D into the mainstream? Something similar to Blizzard's WoW campaign where they get celebrity endorsements. Internet ads are obviously ineffective (everyone ignores them we all know it) but how about ads in mainstream magazines...

Ratio of male:female gamers (was forked "DDM: Chicks not in chainmail")

Gaming in public is not a representative sample, the vast majority of people do not game in public. I've never met someone who has and everyone I've seen that does fits the stereotype to a tee. Every group I've been involved with has had at least one female in it in my 14 years of gaming thus...

    Your experiences with PBP?

Superb for story/RP Terrible for combat. There is also the problem of infrequent posters slowing down play. I think it could work well for an established group, if you could handle lots of RP online and then combats in person at the weekly session.

Are you a Player or GM?

I'm typically behind the screen 90-95% of the time. While I enjoy DMing (Its a great creative outlet) I would like to Play a lot more. My ideal balance is probably 65-75% of the time DMing. Playing makes you a better DM and DMing makes you a better Player. I should get a fair bit of play time...

Representing flying on the battle mat?

The flying bases(clear cyclinders) from mageknight 2.0 work great. I just put a die underneath to indicate the # of squares up.

GMs: How long is your typical campaign?

I tend to lose focus(or get bored) and get distracted with other material after 1-2 years of running the same campaign so that is typically the maximum length of any game I run.

Campaign Wikis are A lot of Work!

I've got about 3/4 of my players interested in my wiki, which is about what I expected so that's great. The problem is I started about 3 weeks ago with the campaign well in progress. I haven't been able to catch up yet, and each week I get further behind. It's a fabulous resource though...

P1 King of the Trollhaunt Warrens - Fantastic!

He's generally fairly RP based, but usually runs his own creations when he does run. I think he may feel constrained by the module, to do exactly what it says. That said he does fairly well from a tactical point of veiw and encourages stunts, so combat isn't boring, but fighting repeatedly...

P1 King of the Trollhaunt Warrens - Fantastic!

P1 sucks. Our group is playing through it(I'm not Dming for once) and it just seems to be monotonous monster hacking over and over again. Some of the encounters are well done and most use terrain very well, but that seems to be all their is. There was some RP at the start of the module when we...

Ryan Dancey - D&D in a Death Spiral

My take exactly. Someone posting anti-WoTC sentiments that has everything to gain from doing so. Meaningless drivel. 4e seems to be doing pretty well from were I'm sitting. I won't bother posting my ancedotal evidence, since obviously that's not solid evidence just like what Mr. Dancey wrote...

Pyramid of Shadow, Major Concerns with Climax

From what I can tell your PCs attack bonuses are right where they should be for their level. I'd drop the AC one point (thus a flank will bring the fighters hit ratio to 50%) and lower the NADs to 25/26 to give the casters a chance. I'd lower the damage on the terrain to 3d6 and replace...

Round Six: Old School Modules... The Last Round!

It's not on your list but U1: Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh was one of the funnest adventures I ever played through.

Any good 4e adventures that arent dungeon crawls?

I'm going to be 4e-izing some old favourites. sinister secret of saltmarsh, thiondar's legacy(dungeon #30) and libris mortis(dungeon #29) are all getting the 4e treatment. I don't know the copyright issues or I'd consider posting them here. But I agree the current 4e offerings for more than...
