    Gnomish Bard-Paladin?

Well, it's hard to say, really, without knowing what direction your taking him, what game-world your playing in, and books you have access to (beside UA). But...I would go for mobility (the feat and the concept) rather than armor, since your going to have arcane spells, you'll want to wear as...

I killed someone (in the game)

In general I would agree...but if the player is truly new to the game, or especially if they are new to RPGs; I would be inclined to make sure he was having fun before introducing character loss. New players tend to look at this game like any other game - something to be won or lost. If you...

I killed someone (in the game)

Hmm, I think I would have been inclined to fudge the dice for the character in this case...I always go a little easy on brand new players, since they rarely understand the rules enough to do what it takes to stay alive (fighting on full-defense and the like). I assume the character cannot be...

What do you do when you're too powerful?

Well, as I see it, there is no such thing as too powerful, technically, at least. Leveling and gaining 'power' in 3.X D&D is just running to stay in place. As you get more HPs, so do the monsters; as your attack goes up, so does the monsters' AC; as your saves rise, so do the DCs you must save...

Which monster book have you used the most?

A friend of mine (and one of my players) wrote a couple of the creatures for CC2: the Tar Beetle and Tar Golem...not sure what the fixation with tar is about...but I'm planning on throwing one or both of them at the party here soon and seeing how long it takes for his face to light up with...

    Handing character death

In general I run a campaign where the magic to bring someone back is available...but expensive or otherwise difficult to get hold of, particularly at low levels. When the current party was about 5th level they fought a large band of orcs (8, I believe, all standard); the primary fighter managed...

What is the toughest printed creature?

The Hec treats it's attacks as natural weapons, all at the same bonus, so the epic dual-weilding feat would be worthless to it...in addition, any creature smaller than Huge it can't attack with all of it's limbs. It also has only a 70 AC and +71 to hit...not really that much when you look at...

What is the toughest printed creature?

    I second that...Thor has a 92 str and +109 to hit...

Which monster book have you used the most?

In this current campaign, probably BoVD; do to recent events, there are an awful lot of Corrupted creatures and demons running around Greyhawk. :] In past games it was probably MMII and the 3.0 FF.

Complete Divine Excerpts - good news for Greyhawk fans

Thank you, thank you very much, I was starting to feel a little alone on this.

DMs: How do your players show their appreciation for what you do?

Uh, they don't point and laugh as much as they used to... EDIT: But seriously, they keep coming back every week for 4 years now. They choose me to DM when they have a choice. Really, what other payment do I need? (Although, paying for my Gen-Con registration would be nice...)

    When is it too much?

You draw the line when it stops being fun and exciting and turns into work. I have seen DMs become burned-out, tired and cranky (Ahhh run! a cranky DM!) when they bite off more than they can chew with regard to world-building or rules-changing. Do what you are comfortable with, know that you...

    Is D&D good?

The BBC did a positive article recently, and you can find comments from players (some from these boards) at the bottom of the page... http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3655627.stm

What details do you miss from older editions?

I wonder if some (if not most) of the things listed here aren't missed due to nostalgia more than anything else, not that nostalgia is bad, I'm just saying... You know what I miss? Nothing. There is nothing about any previous edition that I liked enough to miss. Well, some of the art was...

    Does anyone still play 3.0e?

I know a few people that play mostly 3.0 with some of the better 3.5 improvements thrown in (i.e. the ranger), but not many. I myself love 3.5, but I have held on to all of my 3.0 books, the differences are so slight in most cases that adaptation can be done quickly and easily, even on the fly...

    I hate alignment

As I stated in a similar thread, D&D, like most classic fantasy, assumes an Objective Morality. Good and Evil exist outside the beliefs and perceptions of the characters, and alignment is a way to illustrate this. There is no reason that LG character might not occasionally have a lapse and do...

Complete Divine Excerpts - good news for Greyhawk fans

Yes, but not just fight them...also to interact with them, role-play with them. I have never liked the tendency for DM's to play gods as if they can do anything and can't be harmed by even the toughest of PCs. Mythology and other fiction is replete with stories about mortals fighting...

    MUST SEE! D&D related

The difference is that nearly all country songs are slow (the sad ones, anyway) and that song is sung fast...it sounds, well, upbeat. If anyone is curious about the anti-D&D point of view, there are a couple links at the bottom of the page in question (the one with Dark Dungeons), that explain...

    MUST SEE! D&D related

Am I the only one that's curious why Alex Trebek is the one burning D&D stuff at the end?

    MUST SEE! D&D related

Dark Dungeons and it's ilk are the reason I got into D&D in the first place. I read it for the first time and was completely intrigued by the idea of role-playing games, I searched out all the information I could in those pre-internet days in the library; everything I read made me more...
