Complete Divine Excerpts - good news for Greyhawk fans

I'm very glad to see some support for the supposed 'default' setting. I love Greyhawk and the recent lack of anything that's specifically WoG related has been a little frustrating. The deity info is very nice to see (especially Tharizdun :] ). So far it looks like a definite must-buy. BTW...

    What's it like to DM?

What's the sound of one die rolling. ;) For all the value of the wonderful advice to be found here, nothing can take the place of running a game yourself. Take a deep breath, find willing players and dive in!

    What's it like to DM?

DMing is one of the most fun activities I've ever done. Ever since I first heard about D&D (in one of those Christian anti-D&D books in the 80s) I knew it was something I would love...fortunately I had cousins who played and patiently put up with all my questions - "How do you kill a dragon?"...

Greyhawk : D20 other worlds crossover

It might be interesting to throw them into Rokugon. Imagine a bunch of decidedly 'European' warriors with decidedly western manners and mannerisms in a highly ritualized and completely foreign society (Greyhawk doesn't really have a 'Japanese' style region, at least not in 3.X).

    Advancing a Crypt Thing

I'd either advance the crap out of it's HD, add a template, or both. I know there aren’t many templates you can add to a creature that's already undead (Spellstiched...), but that doesn't mean you can't come up with one. Alternatively, you could create a Greater Crypt Thing from scratch using...

    Too scared to DM!

I second this whole-heartedly. If your DMs are as good as you say they are (and I'm sure they are) they will have no problem supporting you and helping you along if you need it, and they'll love you for trying (and love you even more if you start running games they can play in). ;)

    Phantom Fungus

I used it once in the first 3.0 campaign I ran, although I have absolutely no memory of the fight itself, which probably says something. I think it might be a cool creature to trot out when you just want something odd to freak-out the party, but as has been mentioned, it's not really tough...

A Little Help Please: Spells for Lvl 13 Wizard

Ahh, a man after my own (burning) heart... As to Delayed Blast Fireball, believe it has a higher damage dice limit than Fireball. More damage is (almost) always good, more fire is always good.

A Little Help Please: Spells for Lvl 13 Wizard

I don't have my books with me here at work, but as a fellow Fire Mage I can tell you that Energy Substitution is you're friend, both for turning non-fire spells into scorchers (Cone of Fire, anyone?) and for allowing you to affect those pesky creatures that are resistant or immune to the heat we...

    Alignment. Who needs it?

I agree that CN is often taken by players who simply want to avoid any responsibility for how they play the PC. I don't restrict CN in my games, but I do monitor the actions of a player who has chosen that alignment more than I normally would. I do, however, believe that CN can be taken and...

    Alignment. Who needs it?

The way I look at it, alignment is simply an expression of the Absolute (rather than Subjective) Morality that exists in D&D by default. Demons and devils are evil. They aren't misunderstood by do-gooders, they're Evil. Angels and other celestials are good, not just because they oppose Evil...

    Infiltration?! (Your input desired...)

I'd have to agree, it really sounds like hopeless odds. And this from the Dm who recently threw a band of 50 orcs at a 5 member 8th level party...

    Game Bloopers and Quotes

I've mentioned this in another forum, but it fits here too. Our group started a CoC d20 game, and I wasn't DM'ing (for a change). I made a psychiatrist named Victor Crepin and gave him a really involved and sordid history, gave the DM at least three major plot hooks for him and just poured a...

    d20 or Bust?

I'm not sure if this was aimed at me, but if it was...Don't think I haven't thought of this; I'd love to find another game to play in addition to the current one. But there is this annoying thing called life that keeps getting in my way (that and my wife would kill me). I'm not unhappy...

    d20 or Bust?

My group is mostly hardcore D&D'ers from the early days on. We play D&D because that’s what the group wants to play, not because it's d20. I would be very open to playing or running something non-d20, but that has only happened once; we played a couple months worth of Deciphers LotR right...

    Lost on an Island question

Well, that would have to be the limited edition single volume that has the PHB, DMG and MM all in one huge leather-bound tome...I know it doesn't really exist, but I'm not really on a desert island either. :p

Do your characters know what level they are?

The players in my game are aware of everything when it comes to their levels/classes. The characters are not, naturally, this isn't a Rose Estes novel. :p

It's important to know why this person died. Why?

Umm, I do stuff like that all the time...in fact, some of the most interesting events and plots in my game have come as an outgrowth of me working a plot backward from an event. Everyone is different, I suppose.

Kisses from a Succubus are fun :]

    I DM Standing up

I stand up while running combats. We play sitting around a table built for playing minitures games (SFB actually), so I have to stand to reach certian parts of to battlemat, I also find that I emote and communicate the actions of battle if I'm standing. I sit the rest of the time, though, it...
