    EXP - What's Your Method?

While I am apparently in the minority (at least as far as this thread goes) I award XP after each encounter based on the CR table on or about page 37 of the DMG. I also give a story award after the completion of a plot/storyline/quest. Those are usually about 50xp/average party level, and are...

    Question about tonight's South Park

According to TVTome.com, they had production problems and had to push the air date back...I have no clue about the Hawaii comment though.

Do/Would You Buy Old D&D Stuff?

When it comes to old D&D stuff, there are books I buy for nostalgia (Fiend Folio), and books I buy because I enjoy reading them (Legends and Lore), and books I buy for inspiration in the currant game (Greyhawk Adventures, Book of Artifacts, etc.) While I did play 2nd ed, I didn't have the money...

    Unearthed Arcana: un-sell me

I guess the best way to un-sell you is to say that, while I really like it, my players and I have used very little in our game since it came out, although your mileage my vary... If you're interested, we've used Racial Paragons, and Item Familiars...I think that's about it.

I second that, and I have noticed slow response in the early afternoon (i'm in Indiana)...

    Classes for new players

When I first saw the opening scenes of Sauron laying waste, I turned to a friend of mine a said something like "Divine Cleave..." while giggling with glee. ;)

    Tarrasque or not Tarrasque?

Hmm, I always understood the T to be something of an anomaly, a force of nature, an abandoned avatar for a forgotten god...like someone else said, very akin to a forest fire or a volcanic eruption; as such, there is no need for him to fit into the ecology or even to have one of his own, the 3.5...

    Classes for new players

I'd stick with the basics, suggest fighter, rogue, cleric and sorcerer or wizard (which ever you feel comfortable with). As for drawing on fictional charecters, you can't go wrong with LotR...rent Fellowship, show them the Moria sequence and relate what's happening on the screen to a game...

What level do you start your campaign at?

There is a certain level of suspension of 'logic' that is necessary when designing plots and adventures. If you have, say, a 12th level mage you are using as the major villain, you would design the games' over-arcing plot so that the players will thwart his schemes and fight his minions until...

    Tarrasque or not Tarrasque?

No apologies necessary, as long as your jokes about the big T don't go blue, you know, get too Tarrisqué... I'm surprised at the number of you that faced him at low levels, esp. as a wondering monster...talk about a killer DM... Very sorry for the multi-post...cursed slow work...

    Tarrasque or not Tarrasque?

I think whether he's interesting as an opponent depends to some extent on how you use him...Godzilla doesn't reflect 30% of spells cast on him back at the caster... Still, you (and others) have a point about his lack of offensive ablilties beyond melee attacks... Hmmm, Half-Dragon T maybe? :p

    Tarrasque or not Tarrasque?

Ok, so we all know him as one of the most famous and infamous beasties in the D&D lexicon, so my questions are; How many of you DM’s out there have actually thrown him against your players? How many of the players out there have fought him? And… What are your opinions on his abilities (3.5...

What level do you start your campaign at?

While I don’t particularly enjoy running combat with rats either (or dogs, rabbits, housecats, very small rocks…), I do enjoy most of the other things about a low level game, including the relative fragility of the PC’s. IMO You don’t have to create unrealistic adventures just to keep them...

What level do you start your campaign at?

We always start long term games at 1st. There is something undeniably fun about playing a low-level PC…the thrill of knowing that you and the orc can both do waaay more damage to each other than you each have in hit points, the planning and pining for higher level abilities, the excitement of...

Poll: What day(s) of the week do you game on?

Since I joined my current group in 1999 we have gamed on Sunday evenings every week with breaks for holidays. We start about 6pm and finish around 11. It has worked out surprisingly well.
