Strength & Weakness Of Ability Stats

That was, of course, a joke. ...although now that I think about it... :]

Strength & Weakness Of Ability Stats

I don't know about 78 point buy but all my commoners have a level of rogue...makes walking down a crowded street really interesting :)

Strength & Weakness Of Ability Stats

Those are excellent stats for a rogue. Excellent AC and to-hit from Dex, very good damage from Str, loads of skill points from Int. All in all, those stats should make a killer rogue. If you want more specific info on how the stats might affect your character, you might try asking us a more...

    Favorite House/Variant Rules

We use: 1) Opposed tumble (Tumble roll opposed by Reflex save) 2) No multiclassing restrictions on Paladin or Monk 3) After rolling up stats using the standard 4d6 drop low, we roll 1d3+1 for bonus points that can be put on any ability, although no ability can be higher than 18 prior to racial...

    What is a Jaded Player?

Changing PC's every other session or so, in a vain attempt to stave off boredom. I had a player once who would start a new PC, which would have a great backstory and be role-played really well. Within a week or two the character/player would degenerate into sarcasm and bitterness and finally...

Seeking Sneak Attack clarification for 3.0...

Back in the early days of 3e (waaaaay back in 1999), when I initially discovered that there were no limits to the number of sneak attacks that could be made a round, I strongly considered house-ruling it. Now, after two campaigns spanning 48 combined levels, I'm glad I didn't. 1) the rogue is...

    Every god in D&D...ever

As a DM who often runs deity and religion-driven games, THANK YOU! Keep up the good work.

Chain Devils w/ Baatezu Qualities ...

I agree, as such they work well with Scarosser, the god of torture, from BoVD. I think the Kython was around long before Spawn...

    Animal Companions at higher Level

Well, as others have pointed out, druid animal companions aren't really built for going toe-to-toe (claw-to-claw?) with dragons...heck, some characters aren't really built for that :-) My condolences on the passing of your tiger, though.

    Animal Companions at higher Level

IME, for 11th level game that's darn respectable, unless your game is of the high-powered variety. One thing I might suggest if you want more out of your companion is to ask the DM about the possibility of taking him as a cohort (you would have to take the Leadership feat, of course).

    When to award XP?

I much prefer to give awards during the session and have the PC's level as soon as they've earned enough XP. It gives the game a more dynamic, organic feel. We use the method you refer to as well, the sorcerer who planned on taking Dragon Disciple and levels in Cleric RP'ed both of those for...

Rolecall for the Dead - Bring out your dead!

Last two campaigns, I don't have that many player-deaths Last campaign Dimin - Bodak looked at him Artimis - Wail of an actual Banshee Artimis - Wail of the banshee trap Durgil - Wrestled with a dragon, which flung him into a Far Realm gate Durgil - Imploded Arial - Paragon Umbral Blot Illistan...

    When to award XP?

We had this problem until I insisted that the players bring an already leveled version of their character to any game where they might level. That way they just switch sheets when they ding.

    When to award XP?

After each encounter for combat XP, at the end of the session for story awards. I also allow the PC's to level as soon as they earn the XP.

    What's your DM Shtick?

Things that often show up in D&D games run by me: 1: The Scarlet Brotherhood 2: The Far Realm or some other Lovecraft-ian nastiness 3: Unique magic items (for example...The Acrobat's Blindfold - Blindsight 10' and +5 to Tumble and Balance but all the drawbacks of being blind) 4: Plots that put...

I must say the Tenebrous/Orcus plot was fun, but my favorite is the Greyhawk Wars.

    Hardcore gamers

I need to show this tread to my (non-gaming) wife: "See? I'm not that bad!!!" I actually canceled the game two weeks ago because of our anniversary. Turns out I would have had to cancel it anyway - I got a kidney stone that weekend. Although, it would have been fun to see how well I DM on...

    What's in your pack?

We once started a brand new (short-lived) campaign in which we very quickly found ourselves at the bottom of a pit (trap) and trying to figure out how to escape... Since we were first level everyone started looking over their equipment lists to see what might be useful, calling out any item that...

    Defeating a D&D god

In numbers/powers comparisons, the d20 versions of the big boys of the Mythos for COC d20 could eat many of the gods listed in the 3e Deities and Demigods for lunch... IMC and IMO though, killing a god is/should be as story driven as it is stats driven. I have had a grand total of two gods die...
