    First rule I don't like

Subdual damage is out because it was just one more unnecessary subsystem of the rules that was capable of becoming unbalanced (Merciful Vicious Greatswords, anyone?) Remember that in 3.5 you could shove a sword through their kidneys until they were at 5 HP, then punch them twice and they'd be...

Okay people, a little wake up call.

It's been commented that the complexity in 4E comes from team tactics, instead of individual character builds. Personally, I'm happy with this. I no longer have to put up with my gaming group's Grognard yelling at my girlfriend for choosing Self Sufficient over Power Attack. You mean the list...

Take a feat get armor prof... no drawbacks?

Even the picture of "scale" mail in the PHB backs this up. It's bands of metal that look like large dragon scales. Higher level versions are even called wyrmscale.

Take a feat get armor prof... no drawbacks?

It specifically says that the requirement for a masterwork armor is that the armor has a high enough magic modifier. This means that at 16th level you have the potential to jump your AC by 4 points (+3 scale to +4 Wyrmscale) and then again at 26th (+5 Wyrmscale to +6 Elderscale). You'd think...

    What's broken/overpowered? What's weak?

In 3.5 Power Attack was king, you took one feat and got as much of an attack penalty as you desired for +2 damage each time. You could even get feats that turned that into +3. Monkey grip was mocked because it was essentially a less efficient Power Attack that you could never turn off. now...

Really, No PC Gnomes! Stop Asking!

Are you kidding? That's the easiest roleplay I've ever had. *stuffing pizza in your mouth* "What, Sorry, I didn't know about that, I was unconcious."

So after reading the classes in full what do people think?

Except this paradigm is gone. Would you expend a Daily power to disarm a trap? Because if there was an Encounter power of "summon a monkey made of force that sets off traps" the party literally never has to worry about traps as long as they can take a short rest. Because after 30 years of D&D...

"My hat of flight noes know limits"

And yet only two of those were Superman-style flight. All the rest relied on eagles, broomsticks, carpets, or some other "thing that flies which you ride".

    Is Everything a Power Now?

And more than that, why does the chapter called "Feats" have to have a top-tier ability of "make a single attack against every enemy adjacent to you" and the chapter called "Spells" max out at "rework reality as you see fit"? The solution to balancing Fighters with Wizards is to give them...

So after reading the classes in full what do people think?

Magic does LOTS of other things. Check rituals, Clerics, Gnomes, etc. What you're actually upset about is that the wizard blows things up and inflicts status ailments instead of having the entire universes power wrapped up in his pocket. Well too bad, the Wizard's role is no longer to be ^(O_O)^...

D&D 4E Breaking the 4E Math - Major Design Flaw?

The only time I can find a use where you oppose a skill with a defense (as opposed to another skill or a DC) is "Escape from a grab". Every other case, skills are not used to attack players directly. A +5 bonus is enough that the player is automatically and noticeably better at the skill than...

    We're back to AD&D1

And other people will look at the rules and say "You mean there's dice involved in talking to someone? There's no way this is roleplaying!" This is literally a battlefield upon which there can be no winner, as nobody will even agree they're standing on the same one.

    Where did the animals go?

I'm expecting there to be an animal companion "class", or even multiple classes, fulfilling different roles, possibly with a list of specific appropriate abilities to give them, so no more "my animal companion is a huge crocodile with improved grab" cheese. I seriously doubt there will be big...

PC Azers who have escaped their Giant overlords return to speaking Dwarven. NPC Azers who remain slaves of their giant overlords speak giant?

"My hat of flight noes know limits"

Flight's still around, though limited. As far as I can tell, the only magic that's egregiously missing from 4E is transformational magic. If you want to complain about something, complain about that. I know it's a big headache, but no appearance changing unless you're a doppelganger? I'll...

Eladrins, Tieflings, Dragonborn Too Far Outside Standard Fantasy?

STOP IT! The minis-heavy rules are not dedicated to getting you to spend thousands of dollars on minis, and the dragonborn/eladrin/tiefling are not some ploy to get you addicted to splatbooks. The Dragonborn are in there because the 14 year old in my group saved up his allowance for three...

The pendulum swings back: Humans suck once again

But you will be an awesome Cleric/Paladin since that third At-Will means that when you reach 11th level and get to trade one of your At-Wills for one of the other class's you aren't giving up anything you really wanted anyway, for something you really want. This has been covered elsewhere, but...

"My hat of flight noes know limits"

People have been complaining about it for about 30 years. You usually play Wizards, don't you? "At first level, the wizard is frail and weak, with little to add to the party, the fighter is the primary combatant and strikes down his enemies with terrible justice. Later, the wizard becomes a...

    Core Handbook Errors Discussion

Looks perfectly fine to me. You zap someone with force daggers, and then fill the area they were in with shards of force that make people think twice about moving through the square. If You filled a Burst 1 zone with shards that would be pretty overpowered for an At-Will power.
