    What's your age group?

Good follow-up question: How old were you when you first joined EN World / other variations thereof? I was 14 when I first joined Eric Noah's site. I am now 37.

    I am 37. I don't exist on the poll. 😭 Edit: I found it!

    Eat The Monsters--Literally--With Gummyquest

This reminds me of the time my older brother told me the whole story of the Odyssey using gummy bears. Every time someone died we are their bear. When the ship got caught between the big monster and the whirlpool... that's about when we started to get stomach aches.

D&D 5E (2024) Comeliness and Representation in Recent DnD Art

What we really need to bring back is the Cromliness score. Conan had massive Cromliness, and he's the epitome of a great D&D character!

D&D General Tony DiTerlizzi’s Mini-Monster Portfolios now available.

I used to study DiTerlizzi's art in the Monster Manual religiously. His versions of the monsters are pretty much planted in my brain.

D&D 5E (2014) GM: Who Do You Target? [READ OP BEFORE VOTING]

Cleric, absolutely. Without healing spells, the BBEG's attacks will have much more effect on future rounds. If the BBEG takes a lot of damage while killing the Cleric, they can Misty Step away to recuperate, and return to pick off another character later!

D&D General I think the choice of Species / Race / Ancestry has more to do with Story than Rules...

These are the very words I was seeking before my morning coffee truly settled in. Like you say, there are narrative truths to each species that, I think, are more important to most players than the mechanical benefit. Being an elf means something, even if you don't get a +2 to Dex and...

D&D General I think the choice of Species / Race / Ancestry has more to do with Story than Rules...

Let's say you sit down to play D&D, and the DM has introduced a house rule... There are no mechanical differences between the species. Whether you choose to play an Elf, a Human, or a Tortle, you gain no mechanical benefits. (Let's ignore flying races for right now and say this DM has come up...

D&D General No Humans? (Well, the players... but that's it.)

I think not having humans opens up an RPG to taking things in a really creative direction. You could have all Animal People (like Mouseguard), or all one-inch-tall Bug People, or all Flying People on Airships, or all Undead... When you don't have to figure out how to tie humans into an RPG...

    D&D General Gas Spores

Close call between Yellow and Green. I like the asymmetrical lumps on Yellow, but Green is so cute with its little pine tree stalks!

D&D General Art Thread! What does a D&D wizard look like?

I often imagine fist level wizards as something like this: A young academic, ready to explore and try out all their theoretical book learning in the real world.

    Aphantasia and Role Playing Games

My friend who I played with for 20 years has this. It never really impacted our play, but he did always like to draw pictures of what was happening. I'm very much the opposite, I can picture things in extreme detail (and sometimes it's hard to keep images out of my mind, like if I'm reading...

D&D General "I'm glad to be back playing D&D."

I've noticed that D&D tends to give players the tools they need to overcome challenges as part of their build. If you're running an Exploration game, there's Goodberry, the Outlander background, and various Safe Resting spells. If you're running a Political game, there's various Charm spells...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the highlights of D&D 5th edition for you?

Something I've come to really appreciate after many years of playing is the split of Actions, Bonus Actions, and Reactions. At first I was really thrown off by the idea of certain classes not necessarily having a bonus action or reaction each round, while others really rely on them. But over...

D&D 5E (2014) House Rule Idea: Knowledge Checks Never Fail (they just might make things worse)

I've now been using this house rule for a number of sessions and it's working really well! Some things that are great about it: 1) The players can trust that they will always get some information that's true. 2) There is a risk to the roll, which prevents players from spamming knowledge...

How Do You Decide What RPGs to Buy?

I'd say the process goes like this: 1) Someone in the group is interested in a game. 2) We all research it. 3) We decide to try it out. 4) We purchase the game (either everyone buys it or some people buy it or we all spit the cost). 5) We play and stick with it or eventually switch to a new...

How Do You Decide What RPGs to Buy?

I never buy an RPG unless I know I have a group interested in playing it.
