This is why I like my D&D to be more low magic. Once you try to to extrapolate what society would look like in response to the magic powers of even low level spells and things like misty step it becomes completely alien.

To be clear I don't want to purposely make weak characters, but I'm fine with a system like B/X where you roll stats in order and can end up with a Fighter with a 10 strength. Yup it's weak but it was organic and I can play that character.

Cleric Cantrips are the worst. I hate the overuse of guidance, I hate clerics blasting with attack cantrip, I hate spare the dying. I removed them and give clerics two extra first level spell slots. It workd great.

Agreed. CRs go up considerably when the monsters are ruthless SOBs. I always warn my players before a new campaign that mosters will do things like use attacks on zero hit point charachters to make sure they stay down.
