Only allow players to roll stats when I DM, but i was raised on 3d6 in order, so 4d6 and letting them arange feels very progressive. At least they get to pick the low stat. What i like about 3d6 in order is you end up with unique characters. If I roll a 15 in intelligence and a 11 in strength...

Uggg as a DM your hands are tied by these spells. The best tactical option for the enemies may be to cast suggestion and take a PC out of the fight, but no one wants to make a player sit for an hour and do nothing.

It's a legitimate game and the system works. I haven't crunched the math to see if odd vs even really matters, I think they just liked d12s.

Space Station Zero a solo war game, uses pools of d12 only even numbers count and sometimes you roll against a Target number.

I played a D&D 1e/2e hybrid campaign where I just let the PC always go first in initiative to help speed play and give them a advantage. It was fine. My preference is actually individual PC initiative rolled each round as it adds to the combat tension. But it's a lot of book keeping.

I agree but...... 1: my math/physics skills improved a lot by applying them to D&D. It gave a young kid "real" world applications to a lot of stuff we studied in school. Not sure how my intelligence 11 fighter had access to advance math but we would exploit our player knowledge of it all the...

Normally focused and working to move the game forward.....unless i didn't prep, then maybe more tangents and using my DM skills to make player overthink every decisions.

So true. The movie really needs a scene where Deathstalker breaks the 4th wall to argue about rules with the DM or gets caught cheating on his dice rolls. Also at least once it should have him say " but that's what my character would do".

Combat in 2e is also simplfied to the way many people actually played 1e combat. But most importantly it's organized in a way you can actually find stuff. The 1e players Handbook doesn't have the rules you need to play.

Is that the dimensions it is actually released in? I feel like 92 diffrent games and 56 diffrent shows have been announced in the last 5 years. At least we got the 3d VTT for about 3 weeks.

I mean by that logic a paladin would limit other players from role-playing a religiously devoted fighter. I'd be cool with 4 classes and the rest sub classes, but once you open the door to a bunch of classes some are going to step on each other's toes now and then.
