What are you reading in 2024?

It's been a while since I read it, but I remember it being a mix of "I really wish they had kept this in the movie" and "I get why they didn't include that in the movie."

Dragonlance New Dragonlance Novels from Weis and Hickman in 2026

Likewise, those EQ books enthralled me when I was younger. I still re-read (re-play?) then from time to time. Yeah, she was a victim of the corporate culture of TSR, but at least she landed on her feet afterwards.

TSR How Did I Survive AD&D? Fudging and Railroads, Apparently

I started earlier than you, but my experience was probably similar - rules gotten wrong or ignored. I absolutely fudged rolls, and I suspect the players did as well. We were young. As a DM, if I wasn't designing a dungeon, the number of choices the adventure accounted for were minimal. It wasn't...

D&D 5E (2014) How would you do the Krull Cyclops as a PCs?

But Augury only works if the answer is "woe."

Dragonlance New Dragonlance Novels from Weis and Hickman in 2026

I've said it before, but Rose Estes deserves way more credit than she gets in the history of D&D.

What are you reading in 2024?

I finished reading HPL's The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath. What struck me was the use of the phrase "barrier peaks" repeatedly; I wonder if it inspired the title of Expedition to the Barrier Peaks? Now I'm reading Manly Wade Wellman's The Lost and The Lurking.

Mörk Borg Is Getting a Video Game

That sort of retro side-scroller seems like a good fit for the Switch, yeah.

Mörk Borg Is Getting a Video Game

Cool trailer. Hope it's not PC-only.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

Wild. I imagine there's going to be a lot of variation depending on locations and distribution companies used.

D&D Beyond Releases New Free D&D Adventure Featuring 1980s Cartoon Characters

Eric's updated look still very much jives with his personality in the cartoon.

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

When I went to my FLGS on Saturday, the copy I had reserved was the absolute last copy in the store. Just five days after release date. And their distributor was entirely out as well.

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

Initially, it wasn't even supposed to be a franchise. Then the studio showed up with a lot of money for a Halloween II. When it came time for number three, I'll let John Carpenter speak for himself: "I thought, stupidly — this shows you how dumb I am — I thought that we were done with telling...

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Like so many of Justin's actions, his enmity with Luke Gygax harmed his own business. I'd assume that Gary Con's dates represented the biggest attendance during the year for the DHSM. Had he had any business sense, he would've tried to foster a cordial relationship with Luke to take advantage of...

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

In a way, I see parallels with the Halloween series, where the intention was to have it be an anthology series, but it became solely about Michael Myers (I am unabashedly a fan of Halloween III). Now I'm picturing Hawk the Slayer, but with a ninja added to it. And that sounds awesome, whether...

    Ravenloft Novel Coming in 2025

All strong points there. I might point out that Ravenloft is also a bit of a kitchen sink setting, albeit one with a much tighter focus. And as you said, people can understand it easily. Everyone knows Dracula, and a lot of people know the aforementioned Castlevania.

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

Yeah, Arnold's presence is almost impossible to duplicate. It frustrates me that they've tried to make an aging Terminator work when Conan has a whole bunch of stories centered on an older version of the character.

    Ravenloft Novel Coming in 2025

I picked up the new PHB and for the examples of play, the first couple of them are explicitly taking place in Ravenloft. Between the book and that, I would assume that there's going to be more Ravenloft D&D material coming in the next few years.

D&D General How you would have done the Dungeons and Dragons' movie - 80's edition

What I would do for a D&D movie in the 80s would be to adapt one of the Endless Quest books. They were pretty big sellers for TSR after all. Do it either as an animated movie from Top Craft or a live action with creatures by the Jim Henson Co. I would say that the Crystal Shard as a better...
