Media Interview with Jon Peterson about the big D&D Art Exhibit in November

So who is this Matthew Koder? First hit on a search is some big bank boss, who if that's him, I imagine would have more than enough money to buy up original D&D art.

    General DCC RPG thread

It's generally an eyeball it kind of thing for me. What I generally do is, depending on the sort of encounters I want to build after we go through the Funnel, is either set the difficulty at what I think is too easy or too hard, and then start using that as a baseline. I generally default to...

What are you reading in 2024?

I enjoyed the book, but it is definitely black as pitch.

    Dragon Reflections #79

Yep...though as a kid, I know I completely missed that section in the DMG. It was so dense and shambolic and I would've been young, probably 11 when I was reading it.

    Dragon Reflections #79

Looking at the cleric, putting intermediaries between them and their deity makes plenty of sense rather than them having a direct hotline.

    General DCC RPG thread

Having devoured so many zines when I was a teenager, and even published my own music zine for years, I do love that the DCC community produces real, physical copy zines.

    Dragon Reflections #79

As a kid I likely would've hated this Jack Crane cover, but as an adult, I love the sense of whimsy, the folksy look that feels like a leftover from the 70s. I've done very little with saints in my D&D games. I should probably take another look at this article.

How do you curate your online groups as a DM?

I've yet to find a magic formula for finding good players for online games. Having another player vouch for them helps, but it's still not foolproof. It took me years to get both my groups to a stable, healthy state. I'd much rather someone tell me that they're not enjoying the game, or that...

What are you reading in 2024?

I finished Milan's The Cybernetic Samurai. While the lurid cover and back blurb make it seem like you're going to get a story of a literal cybernetic samurai, what follows is a story of AI and corporate warfare. Now I'm reading Steven Barnes' Streetlethal.

D&D General Tiamat episode from Amazon Prime? Secret Level.

Everything moved so quickly, I missed that it was a multi-headed dragon in the trailer. I wonder if the episodes will be connected or independent of each other? One can hope that if this does well, we could see a D&D TV series after all. Not that I'm holding my breath at this point.

do you think Arnold the T800 have retired in future Terminator franchise?

I liked Terminator Dark Fate, but Arnold playing a Terminator is getting more and more ridiculous the older he gets. And it's frustrating that his other big franchise, Conan, sits fallow when there are so many stories that were told with an older Conan. The Terminator series could continue...

    RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Venice

Cosigned. The Lies of Locke Lamora, history, and Assassins Creed 2 were big influences on my fantasy Venice campaign.

    RPG Evolution: Inspiration from Venice

My first 5e campaign was set in a fantasy version of Venice. I keep meaning to return to it, but there are always more ideas than there is time. I remember finding the book Daily life in Venice in the time of Casanova by Maurice Andrieux to be useful, but a little dry.

    Rebellion Acquires Tunnels & Trolls

For me, part of the appeal of Tunnels & Trolls is that it is relatively unchanged from its first edition - for the high edition count, it's still very much recognizable as the same game. That being said, I'd feel better about a "reimagining" of T&T if Ken St. Andre was involved in it. As it...

Dragonlance New Dragonlance Novels from Weis and Hickman in 2026

Sigh... if I recall correctly, it occurred off-camera. Hardly a proper send-off for the character. Dragons of Summer Flame drives me up a wall, in general, and I know I'm not the only one. The Heroes of the Lance have been a blessing and a curse for Dragonlance. For all the flaws of their...

Dragonlance New Dragonlance Novels from Weis and Hickman in 2026

Likewise, not a fan of them deciding to tell their own versions of the story of characters already told. Knaak's Legend of Huma was one of the better non-Weis & Hickman Dragonlance books. And it further emphasizes one of the big problems of the Dragonlance fiction line - its difficulty in moving...

    D&D 5E (2014) Gracklstugh

If you are actually running Out of the Abyss, one thing to keep in mind is that Gracklstugh is currently descending into madness, filled with paranoia. On the other hand, the duergar trade and do business with other cities in the Underdark, so I would think it not to be unheard of for...
