D&D 5E (2014) Chill touch vs Troll regeneration

Chill touch pretty much ruined regeneration. So regeneration in any group that has even a bare minimum understanding of the rules is useless for another edition. Very disappointing.

    D&D 5E (2014) JUIBLEX

Let us know how the fight goes Zapp. I haven't started boosting demon lords yet, but soon. My group just finished wiping out a marilith, four hezrou, four vrock, and six chasme in one right. The pounded through the marilith's hit points in two rounds. She was dead by round three. The casters had...

D&D 5E (2014) Exp. points in Curse of Strahd

None of the WotC modules have enough xp from combat to level at the right rate. Even in Out of the Abyss, they have you fighting minotaurs in Chapter 13. A CR 2 creature for what should be level 10 plus creatures will not provide enough xp to level. Not sure why the xp tracking is so poor in all...

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

Not in 5E. If they hear the PCs and no one can beat their Stealth of 17, then they get surprise. You get a full turn during a surprise round. So you would run it the following way: 1. PCs enter. 2. Slaad hear PCs. 3. Roll initiative. Only people not surprised are those with Passive Perception...

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

That's why I layered the slaad. With 60 foot blindsight, no cover, and them invisible, I figured they would guaranteed be right up on the door to ensure they don't miss anyone entering and would force immediate initiative. Maybe Flamestrike set them up 70 feet away to be kind, I don't know. I...

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

I would only allow this as a DM if your diviner won initiative versus the slaad. You wouldn't be able to alert anyone until your action. Rary's does not allow you to provide the group with such information with any greater speed than if you were talking and that would occur on your turn.

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

Encounter 2: Round 1 (Surprise) Surprise Round: Slaad and Jubali only ones that can act. DM modifications: I'm going to set up the death slaad a little bit different than Flamestrike. One of them will be 60 feet from the door and one will be 70 feet. This ensures no one can stealth by the...

D&D 5E (2014) [CAMPAIGN] Out of the Abyss [SPOILERS]

Some Gravenhollow interactions Jharzzle's research with stonespeaker crystal concerning demon lords. Jharzzle enters the Archives of the Present with the stonespeaker crystal. Above the entrance it says in Dwarvish and Giant (you find that you can read the languages in Gravenhollow), The...

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

Pre-encounter Discussion Entering the Portal: Given the information we received and our knowledge of the rary's telepathic bond, the feeling is that there is no way to scout ahead effectively and get information back to the party. Jubali throws her head back and laughs, then she looks at the...

So, What's The Challenge Rating Of All Those Demon Lords?

I would never do limited magic immunity. Casters are screwed enough without having their level 4 or lower slots made useless against demon lords as well as saves against higher level spells against Legendary Resistance and complete immunity to cantrips. A caster might as well not even show up.

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

That's more understandable than what I was thinking. So we just think differently for how long something would take. We'll see how Flamestrike runs it. For me it would depend on how obvious the information was.

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

Description of Set Up and Planar Restrictions As noted above, after the PCs kill or subdue the giants, they face a 2 hour journey to the Mountain (or whats left of it). Smart PCs should attempt to shorten this journey by any means possible in order to allow more short rest opportunities in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Please understand your spells

I memorize as many rules as I can. I read up on anything I don't know after the fight if I have a question as to how the player runs it. In general, players have to bear part of the responsibility. They should at least know the rules involving their character. It really does slow the game down...

    D&D 5E (2014) Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

That would be a helpful app. I just love intense debate, a little too much for many tastes. I never dislike anyone or hold any grudges against the people I'm in discussions with. I always enjoyed your tactical viewpoint, though I still want to use the necromancer idea in some campaign where it...
