Journeyman PC Class (formerly Expert PC Class)

I think thats the danger here, where do you draw the line from using rule zero to make slight altercations to a core class to achieve the results you want, or when do you use something like the Journeyman class instead. However, I think the point is valid, if all the standard spell ability...

Journeyman PC Class (formerly Expert PC Class)

Thanks! Right, bonus feats for wizards and fighters were treated as "class abilities" since in essense thats what they are, so no they weren't included in the testing data. Wanted to get the average "power level" from the essential core concepts of all the classes in order to use as a target...

    Class skills for Fighters

Re: Re: Class skills for Fighters Reread the fighter classs description, these are the "grunts", thats the warrior. These are more the elite warriors, i.e maybe somewhat like the US Army's Rangers, but not really the SEALS or Delta Force. Personally, I don't agree that Hide and Move...

    Facing in d20?

Yes, front facing may be at any degree mark in a complete 360 degree arc. I'm going to backtrack, since I reviewed some notes last night from a test sessoin we had. Flanking occurs as follows: a) If you attack from the rear facing. b) If you attack from a side facing and there is another...

    Facing in d20?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Facing in d20? Yup, as long as the rogue is flanking, i.e. either in the rear facing or in the side facing with another attacker opposite him. Thats not too hard. As in 1st/2nd Ed. I don't allow shield bonuses to AC for rear attacks. If you want a bit more...

Journeyman PC Class (formerly Expert PC Class)

Updated the Journeyman with some tweaks, names for the Spell Abilities and fixed some minor issues. Also added a Variant, in testing, that allows more flexibility on a level by level basis.

    Facing in d20?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Facing in d20? My bad, I didn't express it enough. The D&D flanking bonus is now express in terms of either being in the rear, side or front facing. So if you are in the rear you are flanking the target, if you are at the sides and have someone opposite you or attacking...

    Facing in d20?

Re: Re: Re: Facing in d20? It hasn't been used in actual play, just in some rigorous test encounters that we've run. Haven't seen anything too odd happen as its fairly simple and straightforward. However, the one thing to keep in mind is that it does reduce the arc in which a rogue...

Journeyman PC Class (formerly Expert PC Class)

Thanks! Don't think it should be too bad. For the most part there are pluses and minuses to all choices, and the class in general should probably be a tad underpowered compared to the straight classes. But with all things, both core rules and through use of zeroth rule, the DM should have...

    Facing in d20?

This is a facing system from some rules I've been working on. ----------------- Minatures All minatures should be clearly marked with the direction in which the model is considered to be facing front. Facing A combatant may change his facing once per round up to 180 degrees. The combatant may...

    Expert class for PC

Cool, thanks! Although, it should be remember that the "core classes" do not have their class abilities factor in, so perhaps this class is a bit light. That, to me, is an acceptable balance factor since this class also allows greater flexibility.

    Expert class for PC

Well personally, I wouldn't mind ripping out the class system out of D&D and just leave it as a level system. That would be mean essentially ditching all the core classes, prestige classes, etc. and I think putting in something like talent trees from d20 Modern. It would also give an...

    Expert class for PC

Re: Re: Expert class for PC Thats not a bad idea, maybe though 15 + d6 = CP. Yes. The test data was only to verify that the class could not be more powerful than existing classes. Since, the class is not supposed to allow one to select "magic" as part of the class, its ok that the arcane...

    Expert class for PC

No, haven't seen any classes that really do. I've seen a few classless/leveless, etc. rules that do something similiar. That, however, takes too many changes to the core D&D rules... this is an exercise in basically making a self-contained flexible class; no external rules necessary. In other...

How would you do a Low magic Campaign (Raugnar-Thaun)

This and the idea of only allowing advancement to 10th level in a pure spell-casting class seem like two good solutions that don't cause a lot of problems. Feel that its now too easy to hit because there are not as many magic arms/armor, rings, etc. to boost AC? A easy suggestion would be to...
