    Do you like the Shardminds/Wilden?

I like the Shardmind, though it's very situational. I like the mechanics of the race, but I could only see them in my campaign on a case by case basis, not as one of the common races. You would need an interesting justification to play one, but i certainly wouldn't rule them out. The Wilden were...

Sorry this game has folded. Thanks, John

A Concern About Wizard's Race Designs of Late

I agree with these statements. I don't feel compeled to add any supplemental material that doesn't fit my game. Like Amaroq, I allow all the PH1 races and classes, but everything else must be approved. (So far no one's gone crazy on me, so no hurt feelings yet. ;) ) I don't allow any of the...

    Brawler Style "Empty Hand" Definition

"The definition of "Empty Hand" on page 6 of Martial Power 2 says a hand is empty when it is holding nothing else (except for a spiked gauntlet). If I am holding an opponent with a grab, my hand is not empty, so I lose the AC and Fortitude defense bonuses" This sounds about right. You would...

Check out the Forgotten Realms book. I think it was the players guide.

Does your DM hide their rolls?

I generally hide skill checks (because you shouldn't nessarily know how successful you are) where as combat is more about what's convenient to me. If I have a lot of stats to keep track of, then my rolls will be behind the screen. Otherwise, I like being out there with the players. I have...

    Positive and Negative Energy

I always viewed them as elemental forces no different than fire, air, earth or water. And the original cosmology backed me up. In the 1e PHB the elemental planes were topped by the positive plane on top and negative on the bottom. Negative energy drains life while positive feeds life. Everyone...

Another "blame it on D&D" story

Shhhhhhhhhhh! All of you be quiet! Your ranting and babbling is drowning out the voices from my monster manual! What? You want me to kill a virgin? Do you knowhow hard those are to find? Alright, alright. I guess I'll find a DnD player. *sigh* :p:p:p:p

What single houserule has made your game AWESOME?

Ah ha! So that's where Mike got that from. I use this too. It works out really well. Though I skip the rolling all together and just add 10 to the monster's initiative mod. Once you get past the first round it doesn't matter much anyway.

What single houserule has made your game AWESOME?

Ok I,ve seen this before, but I've never heard a decent explaination. Can anyone explain this or provide a link?

    Making powers reliable

I was actually thinking about a houserule concerning reliable powers. Since you already allow the use of action points for a re-roll, what about this: Spend an action point, as an immediate action, to give an encounter or daily power that has just missed all targets the reliable keyword for...

Simple House Rule for Ritual Casting - thoughts?

Not really. especially since anyone can get a feat for ritual casting and it seems like 1/3 (at least) of the classes start with it for free. I have a really cool idea for a ritual using rouge that I'm going to use one day.

Oops. I actually meant to include those in the original draft. Good catch.

Simple House Rule for Ritual Casting - thoughts?

Well if you want to do away with the slots how about this as a modification: This is an add-on to the standard ritual casting rules. No additional feat is required. Combat Ritual Casting: You can cast rituals in combat. You may use Combat Ritual Casting two times per day at 1st level, three...

Can an immobilized creature stand up from prone?

Dude, you are totally overthinking the whole thing. DnD is a very abstract combat system. If you apply real world logic to a fantasy game it all breaks down. Just go with the fact that a 6 to 7 foot tall character can fall prone in a 5 square and not leave it. ;)

    Invisible

As has been already stated, alot relies on an impartial DM. If there is a compelling reason for the NPCs to try to find you, then they might try to attack your square. But most likely they will probably find easier target. If creatures always attack a "random" square right where you're at, then...

    Eladrin trance - 'waking' penalty?

I think that penalizing a player with a dazed condition is harsh considering that your rest is interupted and you are possibly surprised to boot. Talk about insult to injury. And really is trance that game breaking that it needs such a house ruling? When my mother was sick years ago, I could...

    Divine challenge clarification

I always interpeded that as meaning if the target makes an attack after you mark them the first time they attack they take the damage. If they make a second attack (due to action points, oppertunity attacks or whatever reason) they do not take extra damage. At the beginning of the paladin's turn...

Should the DM accommodate characters, or characters accommodate DMs?

As has been stated, I think it comes down to communication between a DM and the players. If the DM allows a mounted character knowing that the planned campaign may not have many opertunities to use the mounted skills, then that DM either needs to make some changes or they're just a bad DM. On...
