    Eladrin trance - 'waking' penalty?

I agree with everyone else. No penalty. Unless you count the fact that you get to man EVERY watch during an extended rest a penalty. :p And if something sneaks up on the party IT'S YOUR FAULT! (Unless you know the "Shift Blame" ritual.)

Simple House Rule for Ritual Casting - thoughts?

AAAAAUUGH! Too many options! Head ready to explode! ;) Seriously though, this thread keeps getting better and better. I like this latest variation. It seems relatively simple yet effective and balanced. And abuse resistant too!

    Showing love to our enablers

My biggest enabler is my wife too. She doesn't play, has no interest in playing but doesn't mind me playing. In fact, she likes it because she can go out with her best girl friend and not feel guilty. And even though she doesn't game (and teases me sometimes) we do share similar tastes in...

Does Dungeons and Dragons need supported settings?

And yet, I remember how excited when I first read that Greyhawk folder with the full color maps! And the maps were huge. each country had a couple of paragraphs, a couple of lines about rulers, import/exports, etc. And that was it!! There were no supplements detailing the various regions and...

Does Dungeons and Dragons need supported settings?

I remember with the original Greyhawk setting back in 1e, the support took place as modules. Sure they were actually areas in the world of Greyhawk, but they were generic enough that you could drop them into almost any setting. Or not if you chose not to. In the setting books, each area got a...

    Homebrew: Magehunter Class

Good point. I totally overlooked that myself. Maybe the ability can be modified to reqire a sucessful save and it would only be negated for the mage hunter. I would also add that spelleater only works on spells that would be affected by spell resistance. (Keep in mind that I'm going off 3e...

    Homebrew: Magehunter Class

I like it. Without actually playing one it doesn't seem over or under powered. But player better make sure they're going to be facing lots of magical threats or they're liable to be frustrated. (This was never a problem when I played or ran 3e so it shouldn't be too much of a problem). I do...

can i force my own slide power to fizzle?

If one of my players ever tried to give a "Custumer service says..." as a rules interpetation I would have to smack them upside the head with my DM's guide. :p CS answers are so suspect as to be unreliable. Check with them in 5 minutes and you'll probably get a different CS rep and answer.

Simple House Rule for Ritual Casting - thoughts?

This is interesting. Consider this stolen dude! I'll run it by my players and see what they think. My players tend not to use rituals either, so any thing that encourages their use is good to me. I think rituals are one of the coolest, most underused aspects of 4e. If we use it, I'll post the...

Is DDI Worthwhile in Your Opinion?

I'm going to throw in another yes vote for all the reasons listed. Plus I always subscibed to both magazines anyway, so for the price of the subscription (character builder, monster builder, dragon, dungeon and compendium included) I get what I had before plus so many more awesome goodles!

D&D 4E Raiders of Oakhurst Reloaded -- Free 4E Adventure (Ennie Nominated!)

I had the same problem. I know this is an old thread, but can anyone help out hear. The adventure looks cool, but the spiffy maps would be cool too.;)

    Troubles with players.

It sounds to me as if your players have no respect for you and the time you put into your game. I have been in this situation before and the solution is simple, though tough to do: stop playing with them and find a new group. Easy to say, but hard to do. If talking to them doesn't seem to be...

    Monster knowledge handouts

These are very cool. Good job dude. I love this place. You find all kinds of cool stuff! :)

    Campaign Chronology

I think it depends on the players. As a player, I love this kind of stuff. It really gives me a feel for the world. But, some players could care less. If you think your players would enjoy it (especially if some played in the older years) then go for it. If they wouldn't, then I would do a less...

Getting Overwhelmed by "Everything is Core"

Dude, don't let the shear volume of books throw you. All you really need is the core books and whatever else you have and/or want. I do have some disposable income and I don't allow everything out there in my game. I have a DDI subsciption and everything. It's just too much information out...

Are you playing the War of the Burning Sky?

I plan on running this once we finish the Siege of Bordin's Keep. (Which seems to be one of the better Sow adventures that I looked at.) I read some of the comments and previews about WotBS and signed up then and there. (Damn you Morrus and your awesome looking AP! ;)) One of my big complaints...

    Action point per encounter

I do the once per encounter action point as well. I haven't noticed any real power creep. I do think it helps that we have a party of four rather than the recomended five, so this rule helps make up the "fifth man" somewhat.

Did your very first character die or level up?

My first character has a convoluted begining. My very first character was in 1979 1ed. He was a 1st level half elven thief. I will never forget my first game because we were fighting a bear and my thief pulled out his sling (because even as a newbie I knew that I didn't want to stab this bear...

    Making Channel Divinity More Interesting

I like the idea myself. I thought of something similar while I was trying to come up with a homebrew pantheon of dieties. For instance, I couldn't bring myself to force a cleric of the god of magic to take turn undead. It just doesn't fit the concept. It seems reasonably balanced to give a...

    D&D 4E Strongholds and Henchmen for 4e

This is a link to a blog "Grewulf's Lair". I think this is a great idea for anyone who fondly (or not so fondly) remember the stronghold rules from 1e. This may not work for everyone's campaign, but it's worth a look. Greywulf's Lair - Strongholds and Henchmen for 4e In a nutshell, it gives...
