Skeletal Society: A D&D Next Fan Adventure

I agree. It's a big plus for me too. MatthewJHanson, any timetable on the third adventure? I'm rerunning the first this week (for a different mix of players) so this one will probably be the following week. It would be awesome if we could finish up the trilogy the week after that.

D&D 5E (2014) What 5e Dragon type are you most looking forward to?

I agree this. The late 4e dragons are fierce! We fought a black dragon at 6th or 7th level that almost killed my Swordmage all without ever actually hitting me. Between auras and triggered effects it was dynamite. Last week we fought a white dragon that actually killed three members of a six...

    D&D 5E (2014) Everything aboot 5E looks boring.

Not a problem per se. They're just rather bland for the most part. (There are a few exception, granted). But, I also understand that this is a play test and some spicing up is forth coming. And as I think about it I'm sure some will remain bland because there's only so much you can do to, say...

    D&D 5E (2014) Everything aboot 5E looks boring.

It's been stated that the monsters have not received much love as of yet. Hopefully the fun stuff is forthcoming.

    Wildshape

I had this exact same thought! (Though you beat me to the punch. ;) ). This way a Druid who wants lots of shape shifting has to sacrifice spell casting which would hopefully balance the Druid a bit. You Could have "Wild Shape - Large" at say 7th level, "Wild Shape -Small"at 5th and so forth to...

Wo only need the druid class!

Personally, I liked the Trailblazer Game's solution to wild shape for the 3e Druid. Basically, you had a list of abilities that you always got when you shifted plus you could pick two or three extra abilities from a separate list. Basically you decided what abilities you gained from the change...

    Spell Confusion

Yeah, you're probably right. It was just off the cuff. I need to follow the KISS principle "Keep It Simpe Stupid". ;)

    Spell Confusion

Maybe even something as simple as "each +1 to AC gained by armor gives you a 10% chance of spell failure". Maybe light armor proficiency reduces it by 20%, medium by 40%, and heavy by 60%. Hey if a wizard wants to burn 3feats to wear chain mail, why not.

    Spell Confusion

All very good questions. Make sure to include that in your play test feedback. I certainly will. My personal feeling would be to allow minor spells (cantrips) to be cast in armor. Since the elf and MU spells are cantrips that would solve that problem. and I see no reason to restrict rituals...

The Deed of Paksenarrion - who wrote it?

Lol. This was pretty much my impression as well. She seemed rather simpleminded at times. Had great intuition though which goes well with a decent wisdom. I always thought that this series was the best depiction of a paladin in any fantasy series I've ever read.

Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

You are correct. Because they haven't even released that module yet. They have mentioned a 4e style tactical module in the future which will hopefully satisfy a number of people. If by 4e style you mean AEDU powers, then yes, there could be an issue. I'm not sure how they could do that unless...

    Thank you EN World

I agree. It was awesome. It wasn't just a monster manual, it was a setting book as well. You could run a campaign with just that book.

Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

You know, after reading this thread I need to correct my statement that they have no modularity yet. They do with backgrounds, specialties, etc. Granted, this is not what some really want, but it is a start. And I find it promising that they have these this early in the play test. It bodes well...

Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

Well of course it hasn't come close yet. They haven't introduced ANY modularity yet. I've probably said this a hundred times (with some of my own group too) they are play testing the CORE GAME right now. They MUST get that right before you add any modularity or the whole thing falls apart. If...

And I guess I'm in good company. I got 100 out of 120 points. No ban hammer for me!

Alternatives to Human Ability Score Boosts

I was thinking about this yesterday actually. Here's my thoughts: Instead of +2 to one stat and +1 to the rest, how about a +1 to one or two stats of the players choice. (I waffle back and forth on how many stats). For a racial ability give them a +1 to all saves and/or ability checks. This way...

    What forum question

I would post it in general. Seems like a good place for RPG artwork.

D&D 5E (2014) So did they just drop modularity ? This is what has me worried.

I'm quoting this because here is a module for wizards. There you go done! Thanks Ultimatecalibur

Should spellcasting classes get a choice of magic main ability mod?

As Salamandyr said, the players shouldn't get to choose, but I certainly don't think it's game breaking for a DM to say that Warlocks use Cha instead of Int if that's how you want to run it. As long as its stated up front and consistent it shouldn't be a problem. The same could be said for Cha...
