L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Personally I don't see why we couldn't introduce a mechanic where the victim of a crit is dazed or some such effect. And I agree with the "Crits are max damage" yawner. I would prefer you normal damage get maxed plus another die roll of that type. (For instance a 1d8 weapons does 8 hp plus...

L&L 5/21 - Hit Points, Our Old Friend

Lmao. I had forgotten all about that insane chart. I remember the first time i saw it my reaction was WTF!? Then I proceeded to ignore it and bury the memory deep in my brain. Everyone should keep in mind that DnD has always had abstract hp and that shouldn't change. But that doesn't mean...

    Jonathan Tweet talks "13th Age"

Without seeing more of the actual rules I can't say for sure whether I would play it or not. I will say that I light the setting that I see so far. Even if I don't like the system there is plenty of material to be mined here.

    50d6 of Fire Damage!

I love it. I also admire you as DM for calling it honestly instead of ignoring the necklaces. I've known DMs that would have. Good job.

    Replacing the Encounter Power

I like this idea. It adds a recharge mechanic without extra die rolling. Simple and easy to track.

Am I Being a Jerk DM?

You're good as long as it's the inteligent foes that use these tactics. A wolf pack probably not. Wolf 1 would probably attack when it got there and wolf 2 would then get the advantage for flanking. I can see animals coordinating that well. Now if they're smart wolves.... I'd say it more...

D&D 5E (2014) How are people currently feeling about 5e?

This echoes my thoughts as well. I've never played any edition (1e thru 4e) of DnD that has not been house ruled or modified in some way by whoever was dming. Im not sure where everyone suddenly got the idea that the game had to be a perfect fit for their style of play. It never has in the past...

    Rogue Design goals . L&L May 7th

Good point. I still hope they narrow the rogue's focus to rogue related skills. Certain skills should only be truly mastered by their respective niches i.e. arcana for wizards, religion for cleric, nature for druid, etc. Time will tell.

    Rogue Design goals . L&L May 7th

Mearls doesn't actually say the rogue can auto success every skill. I would think (with absolutely no evidence whatsoever btw ;) ) that a rogue would have to choose which skills to master, most likely off of a list of rogue like skills. I agree that a rogue should not be better at arcana than a...

    Concerns for the Playtest.

I'm not concerned about the play test because it hasn't happened yet. Why worry about a thing that has not even happened yet. Sure they could ignore everything we say and make a crappy game. They could also listen to everyone and make an awesome game. A sink hole could open up under WotC...

BDKR1 The Unofficial Living Greyhawk Bandit Kingdoms Summary

More likely you'll be throw into the dungeons of Castle Greyhawk. Much harder to rescue someone from there. :p

Public D&D Playtests To Begin On May 24th

I for one am exited that the play test is beginning soon. I can't wait. Personally I could care less whether Monte Cook goes or stays. I like his work especially his 3e work, but he is not the messiah of DnD. He is one designer, a good one, but still only one man. The designers left on the...

    Test

If 5e doesn't have random harlot tables that would definitely be a deal breaker for me! :p

I got goose bumps watching that. It better be as good as the preview!

D&D 5E (2014) How Should Dragons Be Handled In 5e

My first encounter with a monster vault dragon was awesome. We fought a black dragon and he almost killed me and never once landed a blow! His aura and breath weapon (which missed both times btw but has a miss effect) tore me up because I had to be in melter to lock him down. (I was the...

I would like to also thank Morrus and the elves behind EN World's Gamers Seeking Gamers. I'm with my current group because of GSG. Game on!

    Whither thou goest, rogue?

I would think that in keeping with the "rouges as skill monkeys" theme, the rouge will most likely get either bonuses to lots of skills or the ability to do some skills better than everyone else. For instance anyone can try to pick a lock but maybe a rogue can pick it faster and at one step...

    Classes, Races and Themes Headache...

Based on the DDXP play tests that have been written about, I think you'll get your wish. I really do think they are aiming at simple fast play as the core game and add on modules for customizers like me. Time will tell but I'm really hoping for just that.

Talent Trees - The Way To Go?

That's a good point about multiclassing. I thought Saga had a great system to prevent cherry picking the various classes. WotC should take a lot of lessons from The Saga system.

Talent Trees - The Way To Go?

We were discussing this at our game session last week. I like the idea myself. I think it would add customization without having to worry about unbalancing anyone. Or overwhelming anyone either. Sadly I doubt WotC will go this way. But maybe if we keep preaching they will make it a modual.
