    The Mortal God

I would first think through what is a God and what does it mean to be a God and then determine whether stats fit in with this conception. If Gods are just powerful monsters that give Clerics spells then stats are probably fine. If Gods are the beings who created and control reality then maybe...

    What would Gary do?

Actually the first example is pretty classic natural selection. Whenever an organism adapts to a new niche it pretty much requires natural selection. Now if you meant genetic drift then you are correct and that does not require natural selection. i turn my pedantic mode off now

Why Shouldn't Martial Characters have powers?

I agree. Initially the most that could be said is that there were few spell slots and that was the cost (along with bad HD etc.) I just added that, because that is what i prefer. My overall point was "can a system work for both playstyles and work well" Mostly just a question on peoples...

Why Shouldn't Martial Characters have powers?

There are obvious playstyle differences and different aesthetics that people want the game to show. Do people think it is even possible to have both styles able to be played by the same game. For me - I want magic-using characters to be able to accomplish things nonspellusers cannot (albeit at...

    JK Rowling reveals Hogwarts secret

While i think her writing is probably pretty good for a young audience, I would definitely say I don't consider her writing to be great by any stretch of the imagination. My guess is that she didn't want to portray Dumbledore as gay in any way, as that would have cause too many issues and it...

    JK Rowling reveals Hogwarts secret

But why say that he is hetero if he isn't. Why not say he is what she developed him to be (in her notes or mind or whatever) I dont think Dumbledore was a gay role model or such as he for all intents to the story pretty asexual. But writers all the time have more depth in the story than is...

Game Breaker Spells - What are they?

Seems to me if magic has some power in the world to 'break rules' a smart non-magic using villain will have access to spell users. The fact that he has to worry about his underlings overthrowing him is actually interesting and has some associated drama. There seems to be a general discordance...

That is a nice way to look at it

Vancian Caster Alternative in future sourcebook?

Seems if they had conversions on the worth of per-encounter, at will and per-day abilities they could have it so that you could vary the amount of each that you have. But this might be difficult in practice (but would be pretty cool way to differentiate different types of wizards)

Wizards now more of a speciality magician

Sadly i think i understood most of that and that scares me

Wizards now more of a speciality magician

I am sorry, but I don't understand this.

Wizards now more of a speciality magician

I do understand that viewpoint, it is just very alien to what I want out of a fantasy RPG. We completely differ. If rouges can turn invisible and unlock doors from a distance then they are just wizards with bad makeup. If niche protection and balance are what is being strived for I would put...

    Why is it so important?

That would be difficult as I am agreeing with you  i believe as long as you have any per-day resource the question of using a big gun now or later will evolve into the scenario you proposed. I think the addition of per-encounter resources just allows for maybe some mitigation of the...

Wizards now more of a speciality magician

While i understand why some might want this, I personally absolutely HATE that spells should just be bonuses to skill checks. For me it is the quickest way to make magic (a very important part of a fantasy game for me) mundane and uninteresting.

Wizards now more of a speciality magician

If magic cant do things then what is its point (i say this with some exaggeration). All the spells you mentioned are somewhat iconic. If they cant spider climb then they can levitate which still steps on the rogues niche. Spells that cant unlock doors or make you invisible seems very strange...

    Why is it so important?

As long as you have any per-day resource management your point will generally hold. I think what they are creating is a way to mitigate this effect to a degree. I think Pmertons is probably being optimistic as I really think the scenario 9/10 times is going to be unleash your big per-encounter...

    Gravity

I actually think death spirals are far more interesting and make for a better game. I find the general ablation system where it is all or nothing to be pretty boring. I just realized that actually i don't play any games that don't actually have penalties for being damaged (When I played D&D...

    How powerful should magic be?

I think a risk-based spell system might work better than a per-day/per-encouter/at-will system. In a risk-based system the wizard can always try something but has to really gauge how powerful of a spell they will risk casting vs other means of defeating a challenge.

    How powerful should magic be?

I think this is such a fundamental question of the system. Either basically a fighter is just a wizard with a sword (by that I mean they can basically do everything a wizard can but with a different paradigm) or they are just a fighter. Is magic really the ability to bend the rules or is it...

    Why is it so important?

Truth be told I think a better example of per-encounter resource use management would be warranted. From my understanding of this example (i am pretty sure you made the abilities up) there was no real decision to make. If you didn't have enough hits and were out of the encounter you would have...
