I think Reign might be what you're looking for. It's 1) Original 2) Crunchy 3) Has a very cool fantasy setting. 4) Gothic and baroque, not emo or funny. 6) Indie, but well produced. 7) New, because it uses the ORE system.

I know you're being facetious, but I can understand Betote - and it's how I voted. The original D&D hadn't accumulated a lot of what makes D&D distinctive, and 3E and 4E culled a lot of that accumulated material. 3.5 didn't change "D&D" beyond the changes already made for 3.0, it just tweaked...

Weren't half-orcs also present in 1E? Why are halflings more liimted in options than even gnomes? In BECMI and other early systems, they were actually closer to rangers or fighters than rogues. What about prestige classes? Are they available?

There's no reason to think that. But there won't be any martial classes in PH II.

I think an interesting campaign would be if you played regular mutants in Gamma World, who in their life pre-apocalypse were investigating the entity or force which caused the apocalypse. You'd play flashbacks as your DarkMatter characters discovered the cause of the apocalypse, and you'd play...

Also consider reflavouring some of the figurines of wondrous power in Adventurer's Vault as shards of bone from which you can call the spirit of the creature that once had that skeleton.

It seems to me an intelligent person should be able to anticipate and preempt the course of action others take, should be able to process information about the battlefield quickly and respond with well-reasoned, but immediate, responses.
