Odd medieal English custom, can anyone back this up?

I've never heard such a thing and I've sat through several hundred hours of Realtor training that have covered a wide variety of old practises (don't ask), but that wouldn't rule it out. If it was done I doubt it was widespread, as old english laws pertaining to land were well codified for the time.

Should an NPC bad guy get to coup de grace?

I think its fair, and many low intelligence creatures may continue attacking the downed foe until it is distracted. On the other hand IMC few intelligent creatures will CDG until the fight is over. After all, the tide of battle can change quickly and few people will be willing to take...

    Saying the wrong thing

After the whole party set off a very loud explosive trap one player, in frustration. "Now we've lost the elephant of suprise" One of the players was quick to take up oni it and now we have a small plastic elephant to remind us of the importance of the elemnt of suprise.

    Gameday Ennui/Laziness/Jitters

I too share this syndrome, and I find it has grown worse with age (I'm now in my mid 30's). Part of it is the work that goes on with running the game, not just adventure prep, but cleaning the house, organizing, stuff like that.

    The Chicken Are Restless...

One of our former players (he's now been transferred) is a former state game warden and now works for U.S.Fish and Wildlife service. In his time on the two jobs he's been involved in three scuffles with bears not as tranqued as they should have been, a not as dead as thought mountain lion, an...

How to defeat the bbeg in his tower?

Bribe the ogre or the mooks. Ambush whichever one is forced to do the shopping or hunting, then offer him a deal he can't refuse. Entice them out of the tower. Have a disguised PC offer to sell them the location to your camp, then ambush them when they do something about it. Set up a visible...

Religion and politics...OR.. Politics and religion?

IMC the religion focuses on a church led rebellion against the gods. On a local (up to duchy) level religion influences politics. Personalities and personal desires, the foundation of politics, are the driving factors as religious issues seem far away and remote. On the national scale politics...

    Handling prisoners

The inquisitor in my last campaign had grand schemes to build an iron golem with an iron maiden built into it. He reasoned that the golem's immunity to magic would extend to keeping the prisoner inside.

I am the very model of medieval major generals...

IMC generals are usually fighters or aristocrats. Being a general means having a median level of competency and high levels of loyalty. Clerics sometimes become generals, but that always seems to come on the heels of or signify the coming of a theocracy.

    Decisions: RPGs versus Real Life

I'm self employed, and anything beyond sixty or so hours in the week becomes a fight between "go to the office and catch up on old paperwork" vs. "go home and work on an adventure for Sunday". For that matter, right now I'm sitting at my desk responding to this and ignoring my IN basket.

    Generic Classes - any good?

I've had two players use the generic options. The one who chose the generic fighter type felt it was weak when compared to the others and soon dropped it. The player with the wizard though is in 7th heaven and loves the versatility. Primarily it came down to what each wanted in a class.The...

I love to read Dragon, but I don't use it.

I first started buying Dragon magazines back in 1980 and continued up until `96 or `97. What I found was that I wasn't buying for the information in the articles so much as that it made me feal part of a larger roleplaying community. Living in a town of fifty thousand people Dragon Magazine...

    Paladin of the CatLord?

Thinking it over, I'd have to say go back and watch Disney's Aristocats. The tom cat archetype presented there should be dead on with the "cool" factor tempering honor.

    Experimental play: non-party structure

As has been said, this is a very difficult thing to pull off. The only two ways I've ever seen it done well were when; 1) The group consisted of only three or four players who used multiple characters, no player ever had more than one at a time in play though. 2) The players not currently...

    How Drow Now Cow?

I couldn't find a 1930 F&W at the house, but according to my 1927 New Websters International Dictionary; Drow (Dro). Scot. var. of TROW, an elf or goblin The pronunciation shows a "long" o, I just couldn't figure out how to do that here.

    Adventurers in the campaign world

We always saw them more like the motorcycle gangs in the movies that were popularin the fifties. They come into town wearing nothing but trophies and stolen gear, half of it taken from tombs. They swagger about, generally killing anyone they wish, taking what they want, and behaving in ways good...

    Sun God...with a twist. Ideas?

First give him a personality. Have NPC's talk about him the way modern people do about celebrities - in fact have him do something, anything. Most campaign dieites are too static. Can anybody actuall name even one thing Pelor has done? One thing I did in a past campaign was to have three small...
