D&D 5E (2014) New Metal Dice from WOTC!

So, these metal dice are good for... getting dints on wooden tables? Scratches on glass tables? :D ... just asking...

Sneak attacking undead and constructs seems wrong

Here's the explanation why sneak attack almost always works: Rogues are mechanics. They know body mechanics = anatomy, as well as constructed mechanics. So they are good at "de-constructing" mechanics, be it disarming traps, taking apart constructs, or shutting down vital parts of living things...

    Swapping Bard for Rogue

I agree to all of the above. Skill-wise the bard is at least as good as the rogue, has lots of versatility through spells and class abilities. And later on, if necessary, grab some damage spells. How many sneak attacks do you need to get on par with 1 fireball? ;)

XGE "Training" Downtime Activity - does it devalue tool proficiencies?

I'd go with the 250 day rule, but would allow to split that time up. There are hobbyists who get as good as the pros - over time.

    Best wizard spell selection IRL

Invisibility, and ALL kinds of - telekinesis - teleportation (my kids know D&D, and they wish so often for having teleport: holiday trips, let's visit grandma & grandpa 500km away, ...)

    Best wizard spell selection IRL

Level 20? I'd be so mighty, that I would have every spell there is in the books in my spellbook! :p :D

What are the most interesting bits of D&D/RPG Jargon?

Almost every word in the books... I'm german, so are my RPG-friends, so we usually speak german. But when talking about D&D / PF, we usually use the english terms, because we're using only the original books for decades now. (I think the only german D&D rulebook I have is the AD&D (1e) Player's...

    What is a druid?

Radagast in the recent Hobbit movies. Nature was the word that was strangely missing in your original post. That should be the core-word to build around, with many directions to go (alignment, goals, traits, ...).

Why deciding to round down multiclassing spellcaster levels was stupid

To the OP: no problem with that. MCing comes with a price. And concerning spellcasting, it is a much lower price than in previous editions.

    D&D 5E (2014) Expanded Weapons List

Hmmm, some things I like, some I don't... The spiked chain is back - aaaarrrgh! ;) Glaive finesse, no. And from my very own real life hay-making experience: a scythe is not a reach weapon.

    TPKs; Where do you restart?

Full stop. New adventure. Continuing the same adventure does not make any sense. Players know more than characters can possibly know. So save the un-played parts of the adventure for a new one.

    Have you played without archetypes?

You're mentioning the 1e barbarian (wasn't that UA stuff?), and you call 5e archetypes overpowered? Sorry, but that is ridiculous! Most 1e-UA stuff was not allowed at our table, mostly because basically all UA stuff was really OP. I haven't found an overpowered archetype until now. I'm actually...

    Have you played without archetypes?

I don't get it why people want 1e stuff back? The ONLY thing I miss a tiny little bit: the names by level of the classes. Funny! Or why limit the players' options? In some classes, the archetypes only slightly affect the base class, but for some it let's them go some really different ways, at...

    Archetypes

To the OP: In 5e it is even better: the class doesn't even matter. Your dwarven locksmith does not need to be a rogue, but can be any class! And with a feat from Xanathar's / Unearthed Arcana / Homebrew, you can get as good as the rogue with expertise in thieves' tools.

    Have you played without archetypes?

Concerning the original question: No way! Having options is what I love about the latest editions. Archetypes are core to this.

The help action is not broken, but Working together is

Not broken. Just handle it with common sense. Which is encouraged in 5e anyway.

D&D 5E (2014) Why are Persuasion and Intimidation separate skills?

good cop: persuasion bad cop: intimidation me talking to wife: persuasion talking to kids: intimidation ;) These skills can be very close and then also not. Let's role-play, then the DM decides.

    S'mon's New XP System

I'm currently playing 3 campaigns, in 2 of them (1 of these I DM) we don't use XP anymore at all. It's just "intuitive milestones" we use, in case we forget the players will remind the DM. But surely not always granting players' wishes for leveling. The DM knows best at which level he needs the...
