    Okay, 'fess up

I thought about it, but none of my favourite 3e characters really work under the 4e ruleset unfortunately... maybe I just have odd tastes in characters, or maybe 4e just isn't customisable enough. :( The first (and only still living) character was Bokaru, a lightly armored Samurai/Monk/Iaijitsu...

Dealing with a DM who takes things too literally

I don't see this as a challenge for the DM, I see it as one for the player. Regardless of the text of a power/spell/feat/etc, every version of D&D (heck, every RPG) I've played/run is open to rule zero and DM's interpretation. If a DM says that he doesn't see how something can work in a given...

    New PH3 Class....The Psion!

Quoting from this month's Ampersand article: So no, there isn't a chance to provide feedback and get it "crippled". I agree with the person who said upthread that this is the kind of thing that really *should* be playtested. We've already seen changes resulting from playtest feedback on more...

    I posted my thoughts upthread...

    New PH3 Class....The Psion!

Exactly my point. Unless the target has some sort of concealment (which Psychic Brand would negate) the +Cha to hit bonus (actually better, because it stacks with other power bonuses to hit) given by Mind Thrust > +Cha to damage bonus given by Psychic Brand, even for multi-attack powers. The...

    New PH3 Class....The Psion!

You also get utilities (and boy are they good - one of the lvl 2 ones is essentially shield+ and shield is already one of the better utilities in the game), plus encounter powers from your disciplines. Also, the augment effects make the at-wills comparable to "themed" encounter powers as well...

    New PH3 Class....The Psion!

And does little to stop dedicated pirates. As someone has pointed out, anyone with access to the article also has access to the compendium, and anyone with access to the compendium has the ability to create a pirateable complete document from the compendium. I don't think it'll be long till it...

    New PH3 Class....The Psion!

I actually kind of agree. Just built a test Psion, and I didn't swap out my 1st-3rd level at-will powers until I hit Epic (23rd) level. Most of the higher heroic and paragon at-will just don't seem that much better than the basic at-wills, and the 4-point augments certainly don't seem better...

    New PH3 Class....The Psion!

Probably something like giving up an encounter power from your primary class for a Psion at-will + 2 power points (or maybe the max augment value in power points for the at-will). Alternatively you can give up an at-will from another psionic class + 2 power points (or max augment value in PP...

Twist of Space purposefully affecting allies

As am I. Otherwise there would be no need for the Special: text at the bottom of Otiluke's Resilient Sphere...

    Ampersand: Draconians!

Sure, although while the mini is on a large base, it certainly doesn't look the size of the 4e orges... much more the size of a 4e gnoll with wings. :) I'm sure it wouldn't look out of place if you put it on a medium base and used it as a dragonborn mini...

    Ampersand: Draconians!

Weren't they always large? I remember it always struck me as odd that the sivaks were larger than the auraks.

I have a (somewhat lengthy) confession to make

Alpha Omega. Go to Tools -> My Character on the menu, or Character Creation at the bottom. Granted, it isn't actually online yet, but it looks like it'll be a free online character generator, and the screenshots look very nice (like everything AO).

I have the Eberron Player's Guide and Kingdom of Ghouls

From the rpg.net thread (so I make no claim to accuracy):

I have the Eberron Player's Guide and Kingdom of Ghouls

I noticed this. I think it's a great solution to the problem. Sure any PC can mechanically benefit from a dragonmark, regardless of race, but that Mark of Storm on a warforged isn't going to be an actual Mark of Storm, it's going to be an aberrant mark... brilliant! :)

20 Interesting Things from Monster Manual 2

Has anyone else noticed the disconnect between the Steel Predators lore section and the actual monster stats? It mentions consuming magic items and leaving behind residuum when destroyed, even though the stat block doesn't? It's almost as if the author got steel predator and rust monster...

    Hybrid Characters: 272 Combinations?

Well, I was originally posting because I thought I may have been wrong, and knew that a bunch of guys on here are really good at stats. I was curious why my number was different. But it appears my answer was correct and WotC just suck at Maths. Might explain why the math in 4e is a bit wonky...

    Hybrid Characters: 272 Combinations?

Sure... but then there's way more than 272 combinations, because for every class combination there is a number of options equal to the sum of both classes number of encounter powers! So I don't think that is what the article was trying to say... :)

    Hybrid Characters: 272 Combinations?

That would make sense, because they also say that the number has increased from 56 (8 x 7) rather than 28 (8 choose 2). So is there a difference between a barbarian/fighter and a fighter/barbarian in the hybrid rules? I can't see one... if not, it's a little disheartening to think they may have...

    Hybrid Characters: 272 Combinations?

By my reckoning there are 17 choose 2, or 136 different combinations of hybrid characters available. Yet WotC states there are 272, according to the design & development article... Seems odd to me that WotCs number is exactly twice mine... can someone good at stats explain where I'm going wrong?
