    Is "Shield" too powerful?

Well that's kind of semantics really. If it can't be wasted it will always be useful for something meaning it's essentially automatic. Quite a few powers in the game can easily be wasted (in fact the vast majority if we include attack powers). Quite a few others cannot. My opinion is just that...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

Well I'm just saying I wouldn't even attempt to narrate a hit before it was clear that it actually was a hit. It's kind of poor narration to say "the minotaur cuts a bloody slash across you with his battle axe causing you to stagger back in pain and collapse on the floor" only to have to say oh...

    NEW TRAPS article!

Agreed. More reasonable is a simple minimum distance to detect a trap, so that you aren't noticing that secret control panel from an entire football field away. Or maybe something like no penalty from 5' feet away and -5 from 10' away with no check allowed beyond that.

    Reaving Rod and...

Agreed, and I also have the right to observe when things are going a bit off track. However I meant that as more of an observation then a criticism. I'm as guilty as anyone of going off track sometimes. My point was just that the warlock can do your combo just as easily as the rogue, while using...

    NEW TRAPS article!

Well I knew there was some rule like that, but only getting a -2 to detect a trip wire 50+ feet away seems a little silly. So does having the same chance to detect a trap 45 feet away as 5 feet away.

    Reaving Rod and...

Well we seem to be going off track a bit here, as the the power of a particular combo is completely irrelevent to weither someone can use 2 implements at once. However I feel I should point out though that warlocks are quite capable of taking cold powers and setting up the lasting...

    NEW TRAPS article!

It's a little wierd that one shot traps would be considered minions then since the kissing maiden can definitely trigget multiple times. Not that I think the kissing maiden is too powerful for a minion trap though. I kind of like the idea of rolling active stealth too, though another thing I'd...

    NEW TRAPS article!

Well the interesting thing about the maiden's kiss trap is that it's apparently considered to be a minion. As a result you get to place 4 for the cost of one monster. One thing that did annoy me though is they have the concept of minion traps in the article, but they don't really explain what...

    Reaving Rod and...

You make some interesting points regarding what happens if just holding a weapon means it's being wielded. On the flip side, wizards only get the beneift of their implement mastery if they are wielding the implement in question If wielding requires making an attack then this would mean a staff...

    Reaving Rod and...

Hmm.....well the custserv response definitely strongly supports your interpretation but none of the PHB quotes you made do (in fact the p.239 quote marginaly supports needing to wield it). So I guess I have to consider it a grey area for now. I used to give a lot of weight to custserv...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

To be honest I did miss that, but it doesn't change my opinion. First off it's hard to imagine that a section on narration is intended to effect game balance or rules arbitration. That would seem to be purely related to game flavor, much like the flavor text of powers (which wizards has already...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

You know I kept looking for the Roll with it power and I can't find it. How is it worded? If it's a response to an attack or a hit then presumably you'd get to see the area of the spell that was hitting you. Not sure how this realated to what we are talking about. Yep these, powers are much...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

Well to add to what Karinsdad said, every class has a multitude of powers that you will frequently use and they will not turn out to help. Every attack power, every reroll power, every power that adds X to the next roll, every power that says save ends. The whole game is built around powers...

    Reaving Rod and...

Hmm....do you have a support quote for that? I can't find anything for or against it. Though if you get properties from merely holding a rod you could just bundle 10 together at get them all.

    Reaving Rod and...

You do have to wield the rod to use the property though. Can you wield 2 rods at once for the same action?

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

So you never take powers that sometimes fail to work? I'm guessing then that you must also hate the halfling and elf reroll power (you might still miss or be hit), every power that gives you a bonus on a roll (you might still fail), and every attack power in the game (since those often miss)...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

So if your ensuring the wizard only uses shield when it's useful, then you should do that with every spell or ability. Halflings and elves who use their reroll power and fail to fail to improve their situation should get their power back. Casters should be warned when they are about to attack...

    Is "Shield" too powerful?

Actually if you do disclose attack rolls I think shield is a bit too effective. Then it's pretty much guaranteed to turn one hit into a miss (because there will always be an attack that hits by 4 or less), once per encounter as well as giving you a large ac bonus for the rest of the round and...

No Multiclassing in my campaign - a problem?

Multiclassing is very different in 4e then in 3e. It's no longer so complicated and it no longer changes your character around so much that he's no longer a fighter, cleric etc. As a result I wouldn't say any of the reasons you give are really good reasons to forbid it. But....if you really...
