    Kobold Press' Warlock Gaming Zine

The Warlock Patreon is probably the best Patreon I back. So far every issue's been really solid. The lair PDFs are going to be seeing a lot of use when I start up a Midgard campaign after I get the core book PDFs.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation in Eberron

I may, in the end, drop it to 3rd level rather than 5th, but I definitely don't want to start at 1st. I want to have at least one good adventure beforehand, to establish some relationships with organizations and maybe have a character die so the curse afflicts them once I start the clock when...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation in Eberron

Finally got the book delivered today and I've read through the Port Nyanzaru section, plus I skimmed the rest of it. First thoughts, I'm definitely going to start my group at 5th level. That way they've got time to build contacts among the Dragonmarked Houses and other organizations. I'm...

D&D 5E (2014) What Houserules Do You Use?

Yeah, by house rules I mean changes or additions to the game rules. The metagaming kind, which I'd probably call table rules or group rules, would make for an interesting thread, though.

    D&D 5E (2014) 100 Wilderness Events

    25. A storm of incredible power hits with little warning, blanketing the area in howling wind, torrential rain, and deafening thunder. The storm threatens to flood the area, or in higher elevation, to blast the area clear with lightning.

D&D 5E (2014) What Houserules Do You Use?

Those resurrection rules are pretty awesome. I'll have to print those out for my home games.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana October 2017: Fiendish Options

Agreed. I'm a huge fan of tieflings, so I'm always up for having more customization options for them.

D&D 5E (2014) What Houserules Do You Use?

What kind of houserules have you all been using for 5E? One of my favorite parts of D&D is houseruling and customizing the game for my particular group or campaign. I tend to run Eberron, so I've houseruled that everyone gets a feat at first level, so characters can have a dragonmark from the...

D&D 5E (2014) NPCs using spells with a HP threshold (like sleep). How much do you metagame?

Same in my games. The bloodied condition is one of those things from 4E that was just so good, I had to port it over to 5E.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation in Eberron

That's how I'll do it when i eventually run it.

    20. You stumble on an owlbear nest, full of eggs. The mother owlbear is nowhere to be found.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you allow third party material in your game...

I use a ton of third-party stuff. In the Eberron game I've got going, I've got a warforged race I pulled off of DM's Guild, the Unearthed Arcana Eberron article, the UA revised ranger, Kobold Press's Tome of Beasts, a bunch of archetypes from Middle Finger of Vecna (some of the best homebrew...

    D&D 5E (2014) 100 Wilderness Events

    9. A flock of birds, hundreds strong, sits in trees surrounding a clearing. As soon as anyone enters the clearing, the birds stare at them. Then, one by one, they all start cawing and squawking, sounding angrier and meaner as the PCs get closer to the middle of the clearing.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation in Eberron

I like that idea! It certainly gives it that air of intrigue that is one of the hallmarks of Eberron. That kind of thing could threaten to start up the Last War again, or split one of the Houses.

    D&D 5E (2014) Counterspell - Do I know my foes' spell before I counter?

Personally, I just tell my players what spell the enemy is casting. It's just easier and faster for play. If they want to Counterspell, then they know what's going to be cast. I don't want them to feel like they've wasted a Counterspell on something minor. If I was going to force that...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation in Eberron

For Ubtao and the Trickery Gods, maybe they're the remnants of the most powerful giants before the dragons of Argonnessen destroyed giant civilization. Not quite on par with true deities like the Sovereigns and the Six, but close enough for the adventure's purposes.

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation in Eberron

I like that idea so much more than putting Erandis Vol in Acererak's place. I could see Acererak being affiliated with Vol, though. Maybe he broke away from her at some point before Tomb of Annihilation goes down. That could point to another adventure dealing with Vol after the death curse is...

D&D 5E (2014) Tomb of Annihilation in Eberron

The motivation thing is fairly easy. There is resurrection magic in Eberron. It's just fairly rare. What if this death curse has effects on the Undying of Aerenal? What if some of the current monarchs/nobility/Dragonmarked heirs are affected? Getting the characters involved really depends on...

    D&D 5E (2014) 100 Wilderness Events

    5. The party comes across a clearing marked with dozens of skulls. Halflings, humans, elves, hobgoblins - skulls of dozens of races. The clearing is mist-shrouded, cold, and smells like death and decay.
