    Guilty Admissions...

My name is Ryltar, and I ... 1. started gaming only once 3E was out. Although I made the trip back to 2E for Planescape (and it was well worth it!), in every other case I simply don't understand this thing people have about earlier editions being "better" that 3E/3.5E. If anything, the prose is...

    Campaign Duration

Since my group (of old friends spread all over central/western Europe) only gets together once to twice a year ... ... we're looking at years to decades of gaming here ;).

Have you ever ripped off an idea & passed it off as your own?

P&P RPGs, one could say, are designed with one idea in mind: Thou shalt steal from them as much as possible. No wonder everyone does, and it's perfectly legitimate - after all, no one will care that the DM ran an idea or encounter from obscure third-party module x today, because no-one will have...

    Shadows of Evermoon

Note: This post is assuming that you don't play a pre-published setting, or at least have made some major changes to it and therefore your players will need some level of information. I think Gilladian's advice is spot-on, here. It is easy to fall into the pit of storytelling while designing a...

    Roleplaying Despite Continually Horrific Rolls

Honestly, the first thing I would do is get a different set of dice. Depending on what kind you use, they may very well not be ideally* weighted, thus giving you more than your fair share of low rolls. Do 100 rolls and see how far they deviate from the bell curve to find out if this is a...

    The Rise of Felskein [Completed]

Ah, then I was mistaken - I took your post saying 'Bumping to say our first 4e session ever kicked ass' as an indicator for a mid-campaign switch. My bad :).

    The Rise of Felskein [Completed]

And I'm up to speed. Looking forward to those final posts. One thing I have wondered about - is there any specific reason you chose to convert to 4e in mid-campaign? E.g., did you feel that 4e mechanics would suit your playing style / the story better, or did the change happen for another reason?

    The Rise of Felskein [Completed]

Just discovered this gem of a story hour. This far, I've only managed to read up to Session 4, but it is a captivating read! I especially like the little behind the screen insights you give, especially as your DM'ing style has some parallels to my own. Please keep up the good work...

    Kobold Quarterly #3 has arrived

Issue #3 is the strongest so far, and the design/layout improvements are a big part of that. I can only recommend that you take a look yourself. My favorite article this issue was Ari's, and the full page art to accompany it is just gorgeous.

Pathfinder 1E Recommend me Some Paizo adventurers

While I can't speak for Paizo, I think this is something of a misunderstanding. James Jacobs has stated on several occasions that PF #4 was never intended to be as dark as #2/#3, and that the impression of "Paizo going to the dark side" was not intended, but rather an 'unfortunate' consequence...

D&D 4E Rich Baker on 4e Realms changes

Doesn't this kind of defeat the whole idea, though? "The fanbase" isn't doing "enough" in Rich's opinion, so they plan to move the Realms wholly into another direction, so as to make the "fanbase"'s efforts obsolete? Because, IMO, the players that WotC is aiming at are quite different from those...

Why isn't every 9th level wizard rich?

re: Thread title: They aren't in my campaign, because Fabricate (as written) is teh BROKEN!!1 and therefore banned. But, honestly, I've never had a player who wanted to select that particular spell. There's just so many better things to do ...

The Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide is a free PDF download at the Paizo site, and it contains the Sandpoint map (which you can even copy/paste without the labels).

[Iron Kingdoms/Hordes] Blighted Template? Other d20 Hordes critter stats?

There are some in the CR 15+ range, but not too many, IIRC. What comes to mind are the Dragons, the Master of the Hunt, and some of the "giant worm" type monsters. Maybe some of the more powerful Infernals.

Lots of the existing miniatures have been given stats in Monsternomicon #1 and #2.

The best way to do Death Effects?

My vote would be "nothing of the above". The way I've handled it thus far: Instant death is changed to "drop to -1d6 hp". Thus, death effects retain a certain lethality while at the same time offer the party a chance to bring their dying companion back into the fray within a certain timeframe...

    New Dukes of Hell article

A simple remedy: Using a pdf generator (Adobe Acrobat or one of those available for free, FreePDF XP for example), simply choose the Print view and then output to PDF. Normally, this would be substandard, but since WotC apparently cannot be bothered to properly format their new Dragon...
