I'll have to disagree with you there - different gaming philosophies, I guess. It'd be a good thing to just leave be the core assumption of 13 encounters (iirc) per level, thus forcing you as an adventure designer to "hand out" another level up even when it (perhaps) wouldn't be dramatically...

I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this set :). These miniatures are going to see good use in my campaign [shameless plug](see .sig for details)[/unplug]. The players are currently level 10, but aspiring to reach level 18-20 if they can. We'll see. We'll see. [evil grin at pit fiend]

I've downloaded it, but haven't had a chance to read it yet. More to come later :). However, I'm kind of disappointed with some (by all means, not all) of the art pieces, especially those in the chapter headers.

I preordered, and while I can't see a Ptolus game on the horizon (because of time and scheduling issues with my players...) I'm gonna milk it for what it's worth (content-wise), marvel at its beauty and layout, and just enjoy the product as a well-done fantasy world to read through.

I agree, Gold Roger. The new format - from the statblock doing away with all the superfluous information, to the knowledge sidebars and ecology-style writeups - is great. More space for a single creature is also a good thing - it also saves us the effort of having to read through all the boring...

I purchased Shackled City with the premise that I'd modify it and integrate it into my own campaign. Thus far, it's working like a charm, because the "Cauldron" setting can easily be adapted to other cities, realms, or even planes. You just have to switch around a few details, but it's a lot...
