    Warforged/Genasi Origin Stories

I kind of wish it had more substance, but I appreciate the mild Planescapeyosity that appears to be in the background of these articles.

Killed by your own party member!

I haven't seen that many intentional intra-party kills. Here's my story, which I consider being killed by a party member, even though she didn't perform the killing blow. So way back in 3.X, I was in a party that contained no healers except for the Druid. I was playing a wizard, and an...

Our world through the eyes of a D&D inhabitant

Wait, so you're telling me that even though I have 13 ranks in Perform (flute) these clowns with like 5 ranks in Perform (pop music) make more gold than me with a lower check?

    An ASL game (with pictures)

I just wanted to express that I somehow thought this post was related to some kind of American Sign Language board game. That is all.

How is that babe in the barely there armor getting any AC bonus?

I hated that book, but I don't think it scared away anyone who, frankly, wasn't already a geek. If you're already a female gamer (gamefem?), you're not really the target audience, in my opinion.

    Roll That 20!!!

Remember that you don't have to roll a natural 20 -- the roll is actually DC 20. I've actually made a human character who maximized her saving throw modifiers just so I could be able to pull this off more often!

    Your Real Self? Or Not?

I have played both a very lawful good, not-very-smart, and forthright swordswoman, and also a scatterbrained, duplicitous, and rather battily brilliant wizard. Both times I have been accused of playing them too much like myself.

Fudging the Numbers in 3ed - Forked from: Why do you keep playing 4e?

I basically feel like I don't understand the math enough to fudge in 3E. One interesting thing that I read is that, if I remember correctly, the CR system in 3E was actually built through testing -- in other words, throwing an N-level party against a monster and determining how easy or hard it...

    Excerpt: City of Brass

I'm terribly excited about this book. Go spelljamming!

    Playtest: The Druid (merged)

Huh, you're right. I stand corrected. Interesting to see "Beast Form" and "Implement", incidentally.

    Playtest: The Druid (merged)

I notice that the at-wills are in some cases strictly better than a comparable wizard at-will, e.g. flame seed vs. cloud of daggers.

So, do you like Lodoss War?

I was under the impression that the original system was Dungeons and Dragons, and that Sword World was the subsequent custom-built system for the setting.

So I have the Martial Powers book.

I'm immensely curious about the abilities of the Dark Wanderer epic destiny.

    Discussing 4e Subsystems: POWERS!

I think that's the key difference, though, and it's actually something fundamentally elemental to the system. A bit "Fortune in the Middle." I don't know, I get the impression that the design process for martial powers often starts with "Wouldn't this look cinematically really cool?" After...

    Discussing 4e Subsystems: POWERS!

I wouldn't call it "empowerment", I'd call it "control." Basically the ordinary order of operations is inverted -- rather than narrative pre-conditions allowing a maneuver to occur, the maneuver itself creates its own narrative pre-conditions. In terms of who has a hand in how the narrative...

    Discussing 4e Subsystems: POWERS!

I think it's very clear what powers represent; I suspect you just don't like it, which is fine. Especially for martial-type powers, there's a shift in control of the narrative from the GM to the player. If you want tight control of narrative -- that is, if you create the sandbox and you don't...

    Character Builder Beta available

Not a great argument. .NET 3.0 and 3.5 are essentially 2.0 with nifty stuff bolted on; thus all your 2.0 and 3.0 apps should run just fine on 3.5, barring bugs and things the developer did that doesn't match interface contracts, for example.

    1E Resurgence?

As a discussion about Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving the word "videogame-y" approaches one.

    My anti-D&D LGS

Hey Scott, Thanks for joining in the discussion, and welcome to the boards. I realize that your current focus is board games, but if you're interested in having someone run a demo game of D&D at your store, consider this a standing offer. Until then -- perhaps you'd be interested in taking a...

    My anti-D&D LGS

I'd probably use "confused" more than offended, but I suppose it's six of one, seven of the other.
