    My anti-D&D LGS

That might very well be true -- perhaps I'll drop in and ask again; possibly if I ask in the context of it being an RPGA-sanctioned event I'll have better results.

    My anti-D&D LGS

On the other hand, if that's true, then clearly the marketing team has a very long way to go to bridge the gap.

    My anti-D&D LGS

Fair enough -- I don't have any hostility or anything, and I'm surprised frankthedm stepped up the discussion. I just thought it was notable to actually be told "no" in this case, since it just seems so natural for a gaming store to have D&D games played there. But it may very well be that...

    My anti-D&D LGS

Not really -- I'm a fairly well-dressed software development professional, which is how I was presenting at the time. Also I'm female, which you would think gives me points. Admittedly I do have a streak of red in my hair, but. You'd think so, but there's a very very small D&D shelf in...

    My anti-D&D LGS

Blue Highway Games, at Queen Anne, Seattle, Washington. Just immediately Googling them, they seem to have gotten at least one rave review from BoardGameGeek. Strange that they weren't keen on letting me run a D&D game, unless they just didn't like the look of me.

    My anti-D&D LGS

I didn't ask because I read his tone of voice and body language -- he seemed offended that I even brought up the idea of playing D&D in his store, so I figured I should tread lightly. What's interesting is that my compatriot, a non-roleplayer, tried to explain his possible motivations, when we...

    My anti-D&D LGS

So I was delighted to discover that I have a local gaming store near me -- it primarily stocks board games, but it does have a small D&D section and a large back area for people to play games. In fact, they have a library area where, whenever you feel like it, you can walk in, check out a game...

Anyone currently or planning to playtest Artificer/Barb?

Yes, I played an Artificer in a few sessions -- she's a Warforged Artificer from 3.5 that I recreated as a 4E Artificer, but I eventually ended up changing her into a 4E Swordmage because the 4E Artificer didn't fit the feel I envisioned. In 3.5, she was basically a high-preparation...

Gamers that didn't survive first contact

Ah, yes. Once someone showed up to start playing in my usual game -- a friend of one of the other players. We had a good time, she seemed very enthusiastic, she was lent a few of my books, and we said we'd see her in two weeks. Then we never heard from her again. By which I mean that all...

    Help! Monsters who Mark targets...

"Marked" is actually a condition -- you're at a -2 to attack anyone except the last person who marked you, and unless otherwise stated it ends at the end of the marker's next turn. You can find out more on the page that describes conditions in combat (the page number of which escapes me currently.)

So what happened at the Art of the Dungeon Master panel at PAX08?

I was waiting in line for the Art of the Dungeon Master panel at Penny Arcade Expo, but I got turned away, which was disappointing. The line wrapped around the entire floor, so it was a very popular panel. If you saw it, do you know what the content was? Anything new or interesting?

Games That Required Too Much Buy-In: Forked Thread: Games that didn't survive...

I love Nobilis, but it has exactly this problem. You kind of have to filter out players who can't think abstractly enough to understand the setting.

My daughter doesn't like combat..what's 4e got left?

I dunno, depends on whether they dislike the combat or the killing people. I've been playing in a very successful and long-running City Watch game in which (ostensibly, anyway) our goal is actually to apprehend people alive.

What do you think of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide?

You bought the wrong book, then -- you're wanting the Forgotten Realms Player's Guide, coming next month. I'm still flipping through it. I unabashedly disliked the old Forgotten Realms, but the new one almost seems manageable.

    Figurines of Wondrous Power!

Because every action you might ordinarily not be using ("I don't feel like moving, I have no minor action abilities I want to spend") can be given to the creature.

Who is running a 4E Greyhawk campaign?

I've been running in Greyhawk -- I transplanted Keep on the Shadowfell to Veluna, which has been very interesting because I've been suggesting that the theocracy isn't actually as benevolent as it appears. Keep in mind that I'm kind of newish to Greyhawk, but the setting has a strange appeal...

    D&D 4E Brainstorming new 4e subsystems

Fair points, but not the kind of mechanic I wanted. Essentially the idea is that you sacrifice your place in initiative for more power. So, simple fix -- I'll piggy-back on an existing mechanic, which essentially does what I wanted in the first place. Charging Powers: When you use the Delay...

    D&D 4E Brainstorming new 4e subsystems

You know, this gave me an idea for something like: Charging Powers: When you use this power, you are removed from initiative, but may reenter at any time (including as an immediate interrupt during someone else's action). When you reenter initiative, your power takes effect immediately. For...

    Trapped Article

I thought that too, but then yesterday I ran a skill challenge using the new rules and the party just barely succeeded. I suspect your mileage may vary, but despite the low new DCs for skill challenges success still seems challenging.
