Has anyone eliminated the four cores?

If you use the Artificer from Eberron, he also gets that ability. Poof. No need for rogue, cleric, or wizard. One character can filll all three roles.

    Slavery and evil

Not getting a vote means disenfranchised, not oppressed. If you don't get a vote, but the laws of the society still protect your civli rights and liberties, it cannot be considered oppressive. Societies where you do get a vote, but your civil rights and liberties are not protected *are*...

    Stat yourself... Off topic?? dunno.

Disclaimer: I'm an egotist.:) Str 16 to 17 (This is a minimum. I'm 6'0", 256 lbs, and *regularly* lift 500 lbs off the ground in the course of my work in freight. By the rules, this puts my top end heavy load between 230 and 260, thus the Str shown above. I might be able to handle more.) Dex...

    Cannibalism and Human Sacrifice

I'll take the bait. Cannibalism: Ritual cannibalism of those who die of natural causes, especially one's own ancestors, was (and perhaps is) a venerated custom of some tribal societies of Africa and the Pacific Islands. I cannot call such a custom, where no sentient is actually harmed, an evil...

    Slavery and evil

This is an intelligent and interesting debate, people. Keep 'em coming. Good points, Fusangite, Raven, John Morrow, Doug. Fusangite: I agree totally about playing in a mindset that is pre-modern being one of the big draws of RPG's, D&D in particular. Raven Crowking: "There is plenty of...

    You get ONE item ...

I have to join the Mirror of Mental Prowess crowd. I've got friends from Portland to Texas and live in Florida. Hell, I've got relatives in Australia. Not to mention the potential money made as a courier. Ands crying....wow.

This is my problem with alignment

oh, for the love of... you say specifically neato things and i say kewl powerz and now i am being insulting? sorry, but the truthful answer is "no." i cannot be "less insulting" because i was not being insulting in the first place! if you were insulted by that turn of phrase after your own...

    Slavery and evil

Thanks for all the replies, people. Enlightening stuff. Lord Pendragon, first let me say, that IRL, I agree, slavery is evil. But then, many things are, even large parts of our own society. "It's taking away a man's hopes and dreams, his desires, and forcing him to live whatever sort of life...

This is my problem with alignment

I'll admit that to actually play out the fall and redemption of a paladin would be very cool. But all I've ever gotten to do is fall. And playing a hopeless character for the rest of an entire campaign is no fun at all.

This is my problem with alignment

This is undeniably true...but I was speaking of games I played in. Unless the DM specifically plays to you, you get left out, because you can do less. And you don't always get the chance to atone, because the DM has other plans, or just runs modules. Could you be a little less insulting than...

    Slavery and evil

A very good point, Umbran. The notion just tickled my funny bone. As i said, I'm...odd. So...your answer true for all campaigns you run? Or just some?

This is my problem with alignment

"both the player and Gm arw working off the same guidelines. if a Gm has any odd setting specific things, he shoudl, as with all setting specific oddities, tell them before hand" This is not always the case. I know a number of people, myself included who have had problems in the past, losing...

    Slavery and evil

No, you aren't sniffing glue. Although you may be dizzy from having to repeat yourself and making no headway. On topic:Very true. Slavery seems (IMO) to be more evil when tied to the notion that slaves aren't human...ie, when it is only applied to a specific race, not to possibly deservibng...

This is my problem with alignment

I wasn't talking about numbers. I wasn't 'rollplaying'. I was talking about choosing to be an ex-paladin tending to be something that detracts from long term fun because you get much less share of the spotlight. You are capable of less, you have no neato things you can do, and you are depressed...

    Slavery and evil

Slavery is evil in *most* of my campaigns, but not all. My Egyptian campaign, for instance, has a totally different perspective. And there are campaigns in which I have played or run where the nature of slavery was *good*...not your run of the mill type, of course.

If slavery is evil, then are slaveowners evil?

    Slavery and evil

Wingsandsword: Thank you. A very well constructed answer, and informative. Anybody else? Crothian: Nail on the head. I just want to see where people and their campaigns fall in the spectrum of POV.

    Slavery and evil

I'm intentionally trying to get a number of different views. This is not an argument thread. I don't care which side people come down on, I just want to hear their opinion.:)

    Slavery and evil

Obviously. So...each campaign makes a differing, relative moral judgment about whether specific acts are good or evil...and this is then taken as the moral absolute standard *for that campaign*?

    Slavery and evil

What i mean is, in D&D we supposed ly have an alignment system that is objective and non-relative. A given action is always evil, regardless of societal perception. A person can be detected as evil, affected by spells on the basis of their alignment, etc. What are people here's opinions on...
