yup, downloaded and printed out. I'll read it over multiple times before I pick up the game. As for rpg I'm going with True20 I picked up on free rpg day with elements of the modern srd.

What free rpg's out there would you recommend? Something like GURPS lite or GORE?

I'm not upset because the extent of the 3.x product I own are three 3.0 PH's and a handful of Malhavok PDF's. I'm reminded of the excitement I felt after 3.0 was released when you could play a dwarven wizard and/or paladin.

You're probably correct, especially about b because I can see those PH's being hammered from play.

I forgot about Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil. That'll probably count. Maybe the Wilderlands box set counts too.

So now with the impending 4th edition, which 3.x books are going to become the 'must have' books? In OD&D it's woody's and OCE's. In 1st it's orange Palace of the Silver Princess and Up the Garden Path. In 2nd it's Planescape stuff. So what books are rare in d20/3.x. I can see the one shots like...

So do I read the DI correctly when I can purchase an online book and it's updated for free when and if there are rule changes and errata? So no Polymorph in 5 odd books for example?

Ya, I'm cautiously optimistic as well. The extent of my 3.x books are three 3.0 PH's, the 3.5 SRD and a hand full of Malhavok PDF's, so I'm not that heavily vested in 3.x. The group I play in currently runs 2nd and if 4th is as simple as pre-d20 I might look at it.
