    Space Adventure RPGs

Actually I enjoyed the different Space Atlas books for Space Opera. The game is a bit clunky compared to modern systems. GURPS Space has great charts for making systems if you want an exploration game, it's worth it even if you are playing a different system.

Worlds of Design: Making an Adventure “Believable”

I definitely prefer more realistic within the context of the world building. If for some reason there are things that are not possible within our knowledge then the use the things has to make sense as if smart people would put it to good use. Which really boils down to consistency.

Do You Play Other Table Top Games?

In addition to my RPG games, we play Root 2x a month, have an online board game group 2x a month, and play Stellaris (computer game) x2 a week. Sometimes we have pick up board games and other computer games (Crusader Kings 3 for example).

    Tom Swift on CW

What's your rationale for saying there is some kind of quota for gay men in shows? There have been a lot of gay women in CW shows but this might be the first gay man in the title role on the network. I did some searching and didn't see others but I might have missed something. Heck I'm not sure...

    Tom Swift on CW

I did not see any posts on this previously and was curious if anyone was watching it. I haven't seen it either but I was a fan of the original books. I'm not sure how it spun off of Nancy Drew but there were a lot of books with wiz kids in the 50's and 60's. I particularly liked the Rick Brant...

    Generally Discouraged (In-Person Gaming)

Having started RPG groups and board game groups in public spaces over the years, it's never going to happen in just a few sessions. You start with as many people as you can personally get there and then over time people see and jump in. The first year of my monthly board game groups were...

Worlds of Design: Improvising the Adventure

I am definitely situational. There are beats that the antagonists are going to hit if the players don't do anything. But the beats will adapt to player actions (the villain's plans never survive contact with the players) If I use random encounters, the encounters have to be tied in to the...

TBT: The Games That Changed You

Battle of the Bulge (AH 1965) First war game I played and first time I realized my father and uncles used to play games like this when they were kids. Still need to play my uncle sometime. Tammany Hall (StrataMax 2007) A faster and more brutal diplomacy type game. Described as a knife fight...

    Best RPGs for Three Players?

James Bond 007 RPG works better with smaller groups. It can do larger groups but if you want to model the movies it works with 2-3 players better. Traveller. Two players with a bunch of crew or just a 2 person scout ship. Any SF RPG though might work as well Superhero games work well with 2...

    Games with "terrible" follow-up editions

Never saw it because I liked the 2nd edition, I saw no reason to move on. Funny because 1st edition Paranoia was a mess with their skill trees. 2nd edition was much better. I never really looked at the later editions.

Worlds of Design: Peaceful Solutions to Violent Problems

This is generally my biggest complaint with most of the published adventures. They don't go into detail about the why of the conflict. I have no trouble making one for my table but it would be nice to have a sentence or two about why the conflict exists.

    Best universal rpg system?

I am a big fan of GURPS for anything in the human scale. Superhuman high point value characters get odd. The best thing is that you can turn on or off the detail for you game fairly easily. When people talk about taking a long time for combat, I don't see that unless you turned on all the...

    Space Adventure RPGs

I really don't like level based RPGs for modern or science fiction. I prefer Traveller, GURPS, HERO, or just about anything else that doesn't have levels.

I hope it has the most important thing about having pets in a roleplaying game. Being able to buy them cute hats.

D&D General Why do you prefer DMing over Playing?

I run games mostly because I haven't found anyone in my area who runs games they way I like to play. I love trying new games and new GMs at conventions and I've had good play experiences. The games I have played in local haven't been as fun for me as a player. I would run more games but I don't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Waterdeep: Dragon Heist Post-Mortem (Spoilers)

As written the module is deeply flawed. I combined all 4 villains and my group had a great time. I did not use the Remix as I had my own ideas which was everyone after the treasure and the party smack in the middle where everyone thinks they know more than they did and they had to play it...

What are you reading in 2022?

I've finished Day of the Tiffids and Semoisis for the Stellaris book club. We meet on their official discord server. Trying to read more of my Analog magazines, I'm too many issues behind right now.
