Why are Magic Items listed in the PHB?

Agreed but 1) getting players on the same page can be accomplished by a pre-campaign/pre-game discussion and 2) again, players are free to buy the DMG because they want to read the DMG, not solely because "all the magic items are there". Hey, I want my players to become GMs too (so that I can...

Why are Magic Items listed in the PHB?

Care to elaborate on multiple play styles? If players want to buy the DMG, they're free to do so. As long as they're not forced to do so because the magic items are in it.

Why are Magic Items listed in the PHB?

No more players buying the DMG solely for the magic items section.

    high level attack bonuses?

The math is right. According to the DMG (p.184), the Defense of a Monster should be 40 at level 28. Using your calculations, you need a 12 or higher to hit the corresponding defense of a level 28 monster. Mind you, you can get a higher chance if you started with an Int of 20 and put all your...

Yes, you are correct. That is why Improvised Weapons do not give a Proficiency Bonus to attack.

    Halflings - What's the Attraction?

+1 to Will Defense is there because the ability modifiers of Eladrin and Warforged affect the same saving throw (Reflex and Fortitude respectively). The weapon proficiencies are what I'd call "situational" since you're not always going to use them. Either way, Halfling's +2 AC against...

    Halflings - What's the Attraction?

Mechanics-wise, they make great Rogues, whose primary stats are Dex and Charisma. Their AC bonus to Opportunity Attacks and the prevalence of Daggers as Rogue weapons also doesn't hurt the Halfling.

    D&D 3.x WotC: Converting Characters from 3.5e to 4e

I suspect it's more of "this class isn't scheduled for release in the near future yet so here's our temporary solution that's available for free". Having said that, the suggestions are great.

How Easy is it to Convert 3E Adventures to 4E?

You can theoretically create your own ritual/ritual scroll so that players have the means to transport themselves to the desired location. If it's flight in the middle of battle, on the other hand, no such luck. Unless you give playes a magic carpet or something.

    D&D 4E Two Handed Weapons in 4e

None. The benefit is the larger damage dice and some feats (i.e. Power Attack).

Average Damage of Classes (A request)

For spellcasters, it's easier to quantify since their dice damage is fixed. For classes that rely on weapons, it varies depending on your build. I mean there's a discrepancy between a Fighter wielding a dagger (d4) vs one wielding a maul (2d6). Also it needs to be charted based on At-Will, Per...

PVP/Penny Arcade 4E Podcast from WotC

Well, they are trying to get new players into the game so a roleplaying-heavy might not always be the solution (it depends on who you're running the game for). Second, they are playing Keep of the Shadowfell after all and a lot of the design of that particular adventure module was the combat...

    D&D 4E 4E's math-- what am I missing?

Here's the math: At level 30, you should have the following bonuses to AC: 15 (1/2 your level) 6 (Magic Item Bonus) 5* or 14 (Elder Hide Armor or Godplate armor) *Add Dex or Int Modifier (assuming your character uses either Dex or Int for their powers, that's a bonus of anywhere from +7 (if 16...
