The Campaign Journal Conundrum: I Hate Doing Them As A GM

While I've not gotten rid of XP, I do keep everyone, even if they miss a session, on the same amount of XP so that I don't have to deal with adjusting threats up or down based on someone missing a session or two, so I agree, XP would be a great solution if it was an option . . . ;)

The Crazy Character RPG Equation: Which Side of the Screen?

You know, mentioning a setting that is already very diverse and sentient creature heavy like Bas-Lag, it does occur to me that if we were playing a campaign set out of, say, Sigil in Planescape, the cast of characters wouldn't bother me one bit. Knowing that Cauldron is pretty much assumed to...

The Crazy Character RPG Equation: Which Side of the Screen?

To clarify a bit, the campaign isn't low roleplaying, it just seems that a lot of the roleplaying time is eaten up with players playing their crazy issues and with us getting our more exotic people out of trouble, and less about the roleplaying directly related to the campaign. We're playing...

The Campaign Journal Conundrum: I Hate Doing Them As A GM

I've been keeping a journal in my friend's campaign, and I've had no real problem with it, as its been fun and its a way to roleplay even when the session was more tactical. It actually helps me keep focused on who my character is to look at events through his eyes, and its fun. Plus, when I...

The Campaign Journal Conundrum: I Hate Doing Them As A GM

Its funny how sometimes just talking to players helps move things along. I sent out the e-mail, and as it turns out, one player was keeping a really nice in character journal for her character already, and she has offered to share it with the rest of the party. Also, another player is trying...

The Campaign Journal Conundrum: I Hate Doing Them As A GM

You know, I'm kind of interested in doing the recording of the session. I might have to look into this. Thank you for reminding me of this idea.

The Campaign Journal Conundrum: I Hate Doing Them As A GM

I think campaign journals are really cool tools for a campaign. I think it can be really helpful to have a summary of what happens ready for the players, especially when you play your campaign every other week the way my group does. On the other hand, as a GM, I get really burned out trying to...

Potential GMing Delima: CoC or MnM 3e?

Heh, yeah, right up until they realize that its not that strange to go completely insane or get killed . . . "I thought that was suppose to happen to NPCs!" I was thinking about this. Even if people are "Marvel" people or even have never read comics, they kind of get comic book campaigns...

Potential GMing Delima: CoC or MnM 3e?

The last CoC game that was run in the store went over really well, but when I think about it, that game also ran on Sunday night, which is a quieter night at the store, without tons of Magic players looking to play pick up games and searching through singles, for example. If I run this on...

Potential GMing Delima: CoC or MnM 3e?

You know, while I'd love to have a shot at really pulling off a really creepy, out of the park CoC campaign after all these years of hearing about the game, there are very few gamers that don't have some concept of what a campaign is about when you mention, for example "Justice League."

The Crazy Character RPG Equation: Which Side of the Screen?

I guess what's weird to me, though, is that it doesn't bother me if you are playing a high fantasy game and you find a ray gun or fight robots. But if the player's get access to ray guns as an "assumption" even though the rest of the campaign is suppose to look like a fairly standard fantasy...

Potential GMing Delima: CoC or MnM 3e?

That is a good point. While there are a lot of gamers that miss the old CoC game that used to run at the store, CoC doesn't generate a lot of non-GM sales, and back when I ran my Star Wars Saga game sales for the Saga books in the store really picked up. With new DCA and MM3e books coming out...

The Crazy Character RPG Equation: Which Side of the Screen?

I've been noticing something lately. While "gonzo" characters, i.e. people with really strange themes or using off beat classes or races or options is fun from time to time, for me personally its really hard to keep invested in the story when the "crazy" builds up too much. What's weird is...

Potential GMing Delima: CoC or MnM 3e?

Honestly, I wouldn't take it as anything except that, but I don't think its a option I want to pursue. The main reason for this is that when I run things at the game store, I try not to get too "experimental" or to use too many house rules. What I worry about in a "public" venue is that people...

Potential GMing Delima: CoC or MnM 3e?

Ah, therein lies the crux of our discussion. I'll be posting "hey, guys, I'm running X on Tuesday nights, let me know if you are interested" on the FLGS's website, and if I get enough interest, I'll run the game. If not, I won't take up the table space at the store. So I don't actually have...

Potential GMing Delima: CoC or MnM 3e?

I might have a chance to pick up a second night of GMing every other week, and for a while now, I've been just kind of assuming that I was going to run a DC Adventures/MnM 3e game, since I've been wanting to do that. However, I finally, after decades of gaming, picked up Call of Cthulhu, and I...

The Perils of Play By Post (Is it Just Me)?

I've tried running play by posts several times now. When I do, I invariably get behind. Oddly, despite moving slowly, I have a harder time keeping up with a play by post that I'm running than prepping for a regular game session. I think part of it is that I actually have too much time to...

    Tome of Secrets

Well, the priest is essentially the cloistered cleric from Unearthed Arcana, but written up as a class on its own instead of detailing what you swap out, and with d8s for channeling. I like the class variant, and I wouldn't mind seeing a "standard" Pathfinder archetype that does something similar.

    Tome of Secrets

I think there may have also been a bit of a rush to get it out to coincide with the Core Rulebook's Gen Con release as well.

    Walking away from a game...

I have to say, I've had players take a dislike to NPCs and plot their death's before, and even follow through on a few plots. Most of the time its a little quirky, but honestly, if I had a player want to rape an NPC, I don't think I'd handle it well.
