Lone Wolf sends Cease & Desist letters to anyone using the term 'Army Builder'

I have a hard time believing that the only way to enforce the trademark was to take this drastic of a move. Considering most of these references were made by people posting on a forum, and not Privateer Press themselves using the term, it seems very demanding to try and force another company to...

    Rebellion Era Campaign Guide

Yeah, there is still plenty to love in the book, and even if you aren't a big fan of the Rebellion era. Just off the top of my head you have the racial feats, which give all of the core (i.e. from the SWSE RPG book) races some new love, and some new talents that made me pay attention to what a...

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

I'm not going to spend too much time on this, but since you brought this up, my point in mentioning this is, in part, to show that someone took a comment of his, out of context, not having seen the whole however many hour session that was going on, and has extrapolated that every time his...

    Forgotten Realms "Canon Lawyers"

I empathize with people having whatever problem they might be having in their campaigns, but I am quite frankly shocked at the outright abuse heaped on Ed Greenwood in this thread. It makes perfect sense that some designers and authors may not produce material that is to everyone's taste. In...

    Goodman rebuttal

While he was very respectful, and I don't refute what he had to say (and in fact, none of it really surprised me nor sounded "off"), I have to say that I wasn't particularly thrilled that he did seem to boost his own credentials by undercutting Necromancer and, it sounded to me, Paizo, by...

Using Artifacts in the Forgotten Realms

According to the Age of Worms Adventure Path conversion that Eric Boyd did, the Hand and Eye of Vecna in the Realms were converted to the Hand and Eye of Myrkul, remnants of Myrkul's mortal body when Midnight destroyed him over the Sea of Fallen Stars during the Time of Troubles. Midnight...

    Anatomy of an Apocalypse

Thanks, I appreciate that. Honestly, at this stage in my life, I'm not too worried about being a hack. My dreams of being a professional designer died long, long ago (and that's not said with any kind of melancholy or longing, but rather, I think that's a natural phase that a lot of high...

    Anatomy of an Apocalypse

First off, let me just thank all of you that took the time to actually look at what I wrote. I'll get this out of the way. I am a hack. I mangle syntax on a regular basis, am more than a little guilty of run on sentences, and I have a problem avoiding passive voice. I lack the discipline and...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

I'm glad to know that you are so in tune with people running Realms campaigns. I've run Forgotten Realms campaigns for 20 years, and I've never had a problem with the idea that a handfull of really high level characters can't defend an entire continent by themselves. I guess Merlin handled...

D&D 4E We likes our dwarven women kinda furry! (aka 4e beards)

Ed Greenwood's 2nd edition Dwarves' Deep mentions that dwarven women do have facial hair. Many don't grow full beards, but those that do will sometimes conceal themselves as males to help hide their identities in human lands. Many dwarven women follow the traditions of the races around them...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

So to give us a glimpse at a possible future they spoil three ongoing trilogies? They pretty much spell out the Twilight War, Lady Penitent, and perhaps a bit of the Haunted Lands Trilogies. I'd love to be wrong, but they have actually been saying since before they announced 4th edition that...

Things that you would like to see change/go away?

"Absolute" lore changes. If two monsters have the same role, don't stat them both in the MM, but don't definitively change something that used to be something else. And recycled names.

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

Ironically, the one positive I saw in this sample chapter is that Drizzt is a little more pissed off and cynical, which is a nice change from a guy that's constantly second guessing himself and having long internal monologues about how much faith he has in his friends and the hearts of others, etc.

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

See, this is what I don't get. Its no insult to you, and I know not every setting appeals to every person, but in order to get you interested in the setting, they have almost made it unrecognizable to me, who has been faithfully following it for 20 years. Perhaps they know something I don't...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

Many of the Realms authors have said before that the "big" parts of the plot are dictated to them. They get hired to write a trilogy about X, and they show how things get from Y to X, so to speak. So Troy Denning was told to kill off Azoun and bring the city of Thultanthar (Shade) back...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

I'm kind of thinking that perhaps because we have been assured that Drizzt and Elminster are still around, that that counts as "preserving" the setting. To tell you the truth, for what I enjoy about the world I'd be less upset if Elminster and Drizzt were gone but Sembia, Thay, Mulhorand...

Points of Light and the Forgotten Realms

I'm just glad there isn't any evidence of D&D becoming more like Warcraft. I mean, for that you would have to have orcs that get along with other races . . . Hm . . . I wonder if Thay is going to end up being populated by not entirely evil undead as well?
