    Morrus on... Races

This doesn't, and can't, cover all of the verisimilitude issues. With just these changes you can still have a Pixie with a 20 STR man-handling a Half-giant that has a 10 STR. Unless that half-giant is crippled in some way, a 500 pound half-giant should never be physically weaker, unable to carry...

    Morrus on... Races

I'm in the same camp but would also include that I do not want to see any of the following: Pixie/Halfling fighters with strength stats even close your average orc adventurer Dwarves/Orcs with nimbleness close to that of any ElfHalling adventurer I never again want to see 4e's high-strength...

Seminar Transcript - Reimagining Skills and Ability Scores

Rolling for stats in a game where stats have ANY impact on gameplay has the potential to ruin games. Player-A and Player-B roll something close to: 11, 10, 10, 10, 7, 5 Player-C rolls something close to: 18, 18, 17, 15, 13, 12 I can assure you that Player-A and Player-B will not be happy with...

    D&D 5E (2014) No ascending bonuses: A mathematical framework for 5e

I love this thread. A friendly and intelligent discussion on a topic I consider a route the new D&D should take. I hope WOTC's playtest is open enough to accommodate ideas such as this, without dismissing them as killinh the sacred cow. My biggest fear for the upcoming edition is using rules and...

    D&D 5E (2014) No ascending bonuses: A mathematical framework for 5e

Although I doubt they will stray from their ascending bonuses, mostly due to D&D tradition (sigh), I wish they would adopt a base like this. It's faster to use and just makes more sense. I posted a very similar suggestion on the WOTC boards:

    In my wishlist: Minions

I'd rather do away with minions. They just don't make any sense, even in a non-simulation game and are either easy to manage (several AE chars in party) or a royal pain (no AE chars in party). Design to-hit to allow lower level creatures to have more than a 5% chance to hit Design the game so...

Off to see the Wizards: The day that WotC showed me D&D 5th Edition

Magic Missile does hit without a roll in 4e, from errata about 6 months ago. I agree about Greyhawk. I suspect there's some legal limitation keeping them from using Greyhawk. Otherwise one would think they would have it for 4e.

D&D 4E Need some help understanding 4e Monk attacks

Somewhat related, a L9 Monk character in my game is a Goliath with the "Goliath Greatweapon Prowess" feat (You gain proficiency with all simple and military two-handed melee weapons and a +2 feat bonus to damage rolls with such weapons.). He has a Longspear and wants to attack targets with his...

    D&D 4E Introducing 4eTurnTracker!

I still love this program and without it I may not GM 4e. Thanks again!! :)

Tools of Two Trades (Weapliment Expertise) Article Up

I couldn't agree more. Even after a couple of years straight of playing 4e I find the (combat) system overly complex in many areas, most where it adds nothing to the game. Too many powers, way too much to track, analysis paralysis x20, and all of this adds nothing to the game but drawn out...

    What if bonuses never stacked?

Removing stacking in 4e would "break" the math, so I wouldn't do it. No stacking is how it SHOULD have been designed though. Much simpler during gametime, with nothing lost, and that's always a good thing.

Masterwork armor in OCB's new inventory

I thought I understood how masterwork armors work in 4e but after trying to give out a L19 Benefactor chainmail armor to one of my players I'm not so sure I understand how they work or how they work in the new inventory view in the Online Character Builder. For example, the character is a L7...

    D&D 4E Introducing 4eTurnTracker!

Make an option to enable/disable that on the fly (seeing dead or not; allowing it to be turned on/off during combat, multiple times). In many of (our) combats the list of participants if very long, especially if I have minions in the combat. Having to look at a list of 15-20 combat participants...

    Unearthed Arcana: Combat Velocity

The "Double ALL damage" option seems interesting, but potentially fatal for characters. In the game I run we rarely have successive combats without extended between them so most of my combats are at least 4 levels over the party level. I think I'll try the doubling all damage option with...

Triggered actions per round; how many?

Is this correct: Every creature gets: -------------------- - 1 "Immediate Action" ("Reaction" or "Interrupt") per round - Unlimited "Free Actions" per turn, but only 1 can be an attack - Any # of "Opportunity Attacks" per round; max of 1 on each creature per round

    D&D 5E (2014) Sneak look at 5E !

Fake or not, the "sad" part is that it sounds better than 4e. Where can I reserve a copy? lol

Rule of Three finally addresses an important epic tier question!

I wholeheartedly agree with you! My current campaign is in mid Heroic and we're already seeing significant slowdown in combat and worst of all, keeping track of conditions, temp bonuses/penalties, ongoing powers, states, zones, is VERY taxing. We are all adults, 25+ year gaming vets, and most...

Rule of Three finally addresses an important epic tier question!

The 4th+ books of the Gord the Rogue series, by Gygax, definitely was set in the epic tier. I disliked these books for the same reasons I dislike playing/running epic tier campaigns as the (D&D) designers expect, and that is roaming the planes fighting demon and devil hoards, while traveling...
