Using sound effects at the table?

Hmmm. I use a laptop a lot. I use it to have lots of organized notes and I use music and sound effects. Honestly, it is a really sweet way to have a bunch fo handy stuff.

So let's talk seriously about scheduling ENWorlder games at GenCon...

Fett, I have a crew that leaves from Dayton. If you want to go next year let me know and we can throw you in the car and drag you with us.

How do you determine a "Real Bad Dungeon Master"

Any DM who forces characters into roleplaying specifc encounters or forces them to fight specific encounters. Any DM who uses a their own past PC in a game (and the character quickly becomes the star of the show). Any DM who takes a confrontational attitude when you defeat their traps with...

    What's your DM Shtick?

I tend to use lots of conspiracies. No matter if it is a Modern game, a Fantasy game or whatever else, there are lots of mysteries to unravel and lots of good guys who end up being bad guys. Though, to be fair, there are alos lots of bad guys who end up being good guys.

    Mutants & Masterminds: Gadget Book

For what its worth, the Gadgets book is great. Honestly, it deals with more than just gadgets since you can apply the information in it to magic or a few other 'effects' powers.

    Mutants and Masterminds Second Edition

I have to agree that M&M is the standard for which all supers game must aspire. I think the simple thing that impresses me the most - over all other supers games (with the exception of maybe the original Marvel) is the fact that you can tell that the designers really know and love comics. The...

Game Calendar. Do you have one?

I can't survive without a game calander. Of course, I am running a modern supers game so it is almost essential. People need to know what time of year it is and for a GM, important holidays and so on really help add to the flavor of making the world seem real.

What is your favorite rpg/supplement for humor?

Oh does anyone remember 'It Came From the Late, Late Show?'

So anyone pick up the Dungeon Master's Guide II?

The burning question on everyone's mind a few weeks ago was whether or not it was a vlue cover or a brown cover.

    Worst...Idea...Ever

Turning is weird if you think about it. I have no problems with the concept of turning but it makes Undead enemies kind of difficult to use or plan for. Since a GM knows that a cleric can do lots of turning, putting in some zombies, skeletons and other creatures may not be much of challenge...

What is your favorite rpg/supplement for humor?

Paranoia, of course. Although some of the Illuminati stuff by Steve Jackson has some cute humor in it. Of course, Macho Women with Guns has a lot of good jokes in it but some of the best ones are a little more subtle.

    Mutants and Masterminds Second Edition

I playtested it and it really does rock. There was a slightly larger learning curve to it (as opposed to the 1st edition) but nothing all that bad. I would not say it is *better* than the first edition because I feel the first edition really is great. It is a remarkable product and I am...

    Wil Wheaton Drops Dungeon Column

Whereas I did not particularly care for what he talked about most of the time, I did like reading the article and did like that it was something that was unique. Its really too bad that it is ending - especially under the circumstances. Frankly, this amounts to some nasty people bullying him...

Personalities in the Gaming Industry and Politics

Frankly, I am usually interested to hear about the political views/philosophical views/entertainment views of game designers. I liken it more to trivia. Its much more interesting to learn about these things for comics writers since their philosophy can be caught easier in their writing. I was...

GRs Thieves World products - are you excited?

Based upon GR's track record, they put out so many good products that I am willing to give TW a try.

    Fun Tricks with Useless Spells

I whole-heartedly encourage my players to come up with clever things to do with their spells. Usually, I will allow almost any trick to pass at least once. If it is too obscene or a VERY liberal reading of the spell I will let them get away with it and then make a 'Nevermore' ruling which...

Do you run monsters straight from the MM?

If I get enough time in the week I will go to the work copier, xerox the pages from the book I need and make notes on the stat block for any minor changes I want to make. It makes it much easier and I can make notes on the back of the page if I need. Then when its all done I can pitch the...

How Do You Create a Cohesive Group Dynamic?

Honestly, its impossible to force a group dynamic. It has to occur naturally. I think you can no more 'force' a group dynamic than you can 'force' a kid to like brussle sprouts. I suppose there are better ways to approach a group dynamic, such as creating a common goal (other than money)...
